TLDRs;
- Alibaba Cloud partners with Ryt Bank, advancing AI banking in Malaysia.
- PRO-NET teams up with Alibaba Cloud for EV platform development.
- Cloud adoption aims to improve efficiency, security, and customer experience.
- Malaysia’s regulatory framework guides public cloud adoption for banks.
Alibaba Cloud has strengthened its presence in Malaysia by forming strategic partnerships with Ryt Bank and Proton New Energy Technology (PRO-NET).
These collaborations, announced during Alibaba Cloud AI Day in Kuala Lumpur, signal a significant push into digital banking and electric vehicle (EV) ecosystems in the country. The events were attended by Malaysia’s deputy minister of digital, highlighting government interest in fostering technological innovation across key industries.
Ryt Bank Runs AI-Powered Digital Banking
Ryt Bank, a digital bank led by YTL Group and Sea Limited, is utilizing Alibaba Cloud’s infrastructure to operate its core banking systems. The bank, which officially launched in August 2025 and holds a license from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), has developed Ryt AI, an intelligent banking assistant running on ILMU, Malaysia’s first homegrown large language model.
The partnership enables Ryt Bank to align its operations with Malaysia’s Risk Management in Technology (RMiT) framework, updated in November 2024. The framework imposes strict guidelines for cloud adoption, covering governance, cybersecurity, technology risk management, and audit requirements.
By leveraging Alibaba Cloud, Ryt Bank ensures compliance while enhancing operational efficiency and customer service.
PRO-NET Develops National EV Platform
PRO-NET, the energy division of Malaysian automaker Proton, is collaborating with Alibaba Cloud to develop a comprehensive platform for electric vehicles. The initiative aims to integrate AI tools into both internal operations and future consumer-facing services, supporting Proton’s ambition to expand its new energy vehicle offerings across Malaysia.
This partnership marks a strategic move to digitize EV infrastructure and streamline service delivery using cloud technologies.
Cloud Technology Enhances Efficiency and Security
Both partnerships highlight Alibaba Cloud’s role in helping Malaysian firms modernize operations. By migrating core banking systems and EV platforms to the cloud, Ryt Bank and PRO-NET can achieve faster processing, enhanced cybersecurity, and improved operational oversight.
These technological upgrades are particularly valuable for compliance with evolving regulations and for managing risks in emerging industries such as digital banking and electric mobility.
Vendors Poised to Benefit from Cloud Adoption
As Malaysian banks increasingly migrate workloads to public cloud environments, vendors offering specialized compliance, disaster recovery, and data residency solutions are likely to see growing demand.
Platforms like Alibaba Cloud, supported by RMiT-aligned monitoring and audit tools, can help regulated institutions meet stricter supervisory requirements for emerging technologies.
Cybersecurity firms and consultancies that support cloud-based operations will play a critical role in ensuring smooth and compliant transitions.
