Amazon Air Expands Logistics Network in India
Amazon Air expanded its cargo operations into Northeast India. The network now connects Kolkata and Guwahati with Delhi and other fulfillment centers. This development increases delivery efficiency across the northeastern region.
The expansion targets the seven northeastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. The integrated air and surface network improves delivery speeds across the region. Transit times may improve by up to five times because of direct air connectivity.
Northeast India has faced persistent logistics challenges because of mountainous terrain and limited infrastructure. Dedicated cargo flights reduce reliance on road and rail transport. Businesses in the region gain faster connections to national markets.
Regional Logistics Development Supports E-commerce Growth
Amazon began operating cargo flights between Delhi and Guwahati on Jan. 19, according to Flightradar24 tracking data. The company launched its dedicated air cargo service in India in early 2023. Currently, the network connects at least 14 cities with freighter services.
Operations rely on aircraft managed by Quikjet Cargo Airlines. The carrier deploys two converted Boeing 737‑800 freighters for Amazon shipments. These aircraft transport tens of thousands of packages each day across domestic routes.
The expanded air network benefits sellers who handle horticulture goods, specialty produce, and regional crafts. Reliable air transport allows these businesses to reach customers across India more quickly. As a result, regional producers gain broader access to the national digital marketplace.
Long-Term Logistics Investments Continue in India
Amazon has steadily expanded its logistics infrastructure in India since 2013. Overnight cargo routes link major cities such as Mumbai, Bengaluru and Pune. The company also operates several multimodal connections that combine air and rail transport.
In addition, the network uses cargo space within commercial passenger aircraft for smaller markets. This strategy strengthens delivery coverage in non-metro areas across the country. Currently, the air network supports more than 100 origin-destination routes nationwide.
Government policy has also encouraged air cargo development in Northeast India. The national budget for 2026 allocates funds for cargo infrastructure and warehousing. Authorities also removed the value cap on courier exports, supporting cross-border e-commerce shipments.
Amazon Air maintains a large cargo fleet supporting e-commerce deliveries. The company operates an extensive logistics network across the United States and maintains smaller operations in Europe. Overall, the fleet includes roughly 100 aircraft supporting parcel transportation worldwide.
