TLDR;
- Anthropic rolls out voice capabilities for its Claude chatbot, enabling hands-free AI conversations.
- The feature is powered by the Claude 3.7 Sonnet model and will be available to all users in English.
- Users can now choose from five different voices for Claude.
- Voice mode enhances productivity for users on the move or multitasking.
AI startup Anthropic has officially added voice capabilities to its flagship chatbot Claude, allowing users to hold full, fluid conversations with the AI assistant on their mobile devices. The feature, announced today, is set to roll out to all users in the coming weeks, regardless of subscription level.
Voice mode is built on top of Claude 3.7 Sonnet, the company’s latest AI model unveiled earlier this month. Users can now speak directly to Claude and hear responses aloud, making the chatbot a more intuitive companion for users who are commuting, cooking, or otherwise occupied.
According to Anthropic’s support page, “The feature allows you to talk to Claude and hear responses in your voice, making it easier to use Claude when your hands are busy but your mind is not.”

Competing With Giants
Claude’s new voice mode places it squarely in competition with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and xAI’s Grok, all of which have integrated similar features in recent updates. Like its rivals, Claude supports document and image analysis, now with the added benefit of natural voice interaction.
Anthropic’s voice assistant comes with five different voices to choose from, allowing a bit of personalization. Free-tier users will get a limited quota, about 20 to 30 conversations, while premium subscribers will enjoy extended functionality, including Google Workspace integrations like Gmail and Calendar access.
The Enterprise version further expands capabilities with Google Docs access, giving businesses a hands-free way to analyze and generate content via voice.
A $61.5 Billion Bet AI
Anthropic’s rapid pace of development is backed by serious capital. In March , the company raised $3.5 billion in a funding round that pushed its valuation to $61.5 billion. This funding has fueled a series of aggressive feature rollouts, including February’s release of the Claude 3.7 Sonnet model, touted as the company’s “most intelligent” yet.
Claude 3.7 Sonnet blends rapid response generation with the ability for long-form reasoning, making it capable of everything from simple Q&As to complex problem solving. Its “advanced thinking mode” has shown notable gains in subjects like math, physics, and code generation.
Anthropic said it’s now shifting its development roadmap toward “real-world tasks that reflect the true needs of users,” a move that voice interaction aligns with perfectly.
AI Arms Race Intensifies
Notably, Anthropic’s latest update comes amid a broader AI arms race among major tech firms. Just last week at Google I/O 2025, the company announced its AI Ultra subscription for $249.99 per month, offering elite access to tools like the Veo 3 video generator and Project Mariner agent mode.
Meanwhile, OpenAI has continued to iterate on its ChatGPT Pro model, now priced at $200/month, while Anthropic’s own Max subscription offers competitive tools at a similar price point.
That said, voice mode may not carry a premium price tag for now, but as demand grows for hands-free AI interactions, it could become a key selling point in the battle for AI dominance.
