Key Highlights
- DeepSeek’s forthcoming V4 model has been engineered to operate on semiconductor technology developed by Huawei Technologies, as reported by The Information
- Major Chinese technology corporations including Alibaba, ByteDance, and Tencent have secured bulk chip orders from Huawei — comprising hundreds of thousands of units combined
- DeepSeek collaborated closely with both Huawei and Cambricon Technologies to modify significant portions of V4’s foundational software architecture
- The V4 release is anticipated within the coming weeks, alongside two supplementary versions currently under development
- Unlike typical industry protocol before major model releases, DeepSeek has excluded U.S. semiconductor manufacturers from preliminary V4 access
DeepSeek’s forthcoming artificial intelligence model, designated V4, has been optimized to function on semiconductor architecture created by Huawei Technologies, as detailed in a Friday publication by The Information.
The reporting drew from five sources with firsthand knowledge of the development.
Anticipating the V4 release, prominent Chinese technology enterprises Alibaba, ByteDance, and Tencent have secured substantial procurement contracts for Huawei’s next-generation chip offerings. These combined orders span several hundred thousand individual units.
Industry observers expect the model to become publicly available within the next several weeks.
DeepSeek, the artificial intelligence company headquartered in Hangzhou, has dedicated multiple months to partnership efforts with Huawei and Chinese semiconductor designer Cambricon Technologies. The primary objective centered on modifying and validating critical components of V4’s foundational programming to ensure compatibility with domestically manufactured hardware.
This partnership arrangement was confirmed by two individuals with proximity to the organization.
U.S. Semiconductor Manufacturers Excluded from V4 Preview
DeepSeek provided preliminary access to Chinese chip manufacturers, including Huawei, in advance of the V4 model debut. American semiconductor companies were not afforded equivalent access, representing a departure from conventional industry protocols that typically precede significant model launches.
Reuters previously documented this development earlier this year.
The organization is simultaneously developing two complementary V4 variations. Each iteration targets distinct functional requirements and has been engineered specifically for Chinese-manufactured silicon.
Neither DeepSeek nor Huawei provided responses to Reuters’ inquiries for comment, which were submitted beyond standard business hours.
Market Impact of DeepSeek’s Prior Releases
DeepSeek’s previous model releases, specifically V3 and R1, precipitated significant downward pressure on international technology equity markets upon their introduction. Market participants began reassessing whether American artificial intelligence enterprises required multi-billion dollar investments in computational infrastructure.
This market response has placed DeepSeek’s upcoming V4 model under considerable worldwide attention.
The V4 model remains unreleased to date. DeepSeek has not publicly announced an official availability timeline.
Shares of Cambricon Technologies increased 2.67% following the disclosure. Alibaba stock declined 1.36% during U.S. market hours and dropped 1.49% in Hong Kong trading.
