Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) saw its stock gain Thursday following the company’s announcement of a major expansion in AI-powered content enforcement across its apps.
The move reflects Meta’s strategy to improve detection of harmful content, scams, and account takeovers while reducing dependence on third-party moderation vendors.
The company’s new AI systems are designed to identify and remove a wide range of violations, including terrorism-related content, child exploitation, illicit drug activity, fraud, and scams. Meta says the technology will handle repetitive or high-volume enforcement tasks more efficiently than human moderators, allowing staff to focus on higher-risk and nuanced decisions.
Advanced AI Targets Scams and Abuse
In early tests, Meta reported that its AI systems detected twice as much adult sexual solicitation content as human reviewers, with error rates dropping by over 60%. Beyond sexual content, the AI can flag impersonation accounts, monitor suspicious login activity, and prevent account takeovers by tracking unusual changes in profiles or passwords.

Meta estimates that the system can prevent roughly 5,000 scam attempts each day, protecting users from fraudulent schemes attempting to capture login credentials or personal information. The company emphasized that while AI will take on more enforcement duties, human experts will continue to oversee the system, particularly for complex, high-impact decisions like appeals or law enforcement reports.
Cutting Back on Third-Party Vendors
The rollout comes as Meta phases out its reliance on third-party content moderation vendors. In addition to enforcement improvements, Meta introduced a Meta AI support assistant available 24/7 to all users. The assistant is rolling out in the Facebook and Instagram apps on iOS and Android, as well as through the platforms’ desktop Help Centers.
The tool is designed to provide rapid answers to user inquiries, ranging from account management to content reporting, enhancing the overall user experience while freeing human staff for more complex support cases.

Following the start of President Donald Trump’s second term, Meta phased out its third-party fact-checking program in favor of a Community Notes system similar to X, emphasizing user-driven verification.
