French artificial intelligence powerhouse Mistral AI has secured $830 million through debt financing in a landmark move for the company. The AI firm plans to deploy these funds toward acquiring 13,800 Nvidia processors destined for a new computing facility in the greater Paris region.
This marks Mistral’s inaugural venture into debt financing. A consortium of seven major banks underwrote the transaction, featuring BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole CIB, HSBC, and MUFG among the lenders.
The upcoming facility will be situated in Bruyeres-le-Chatel, a municipality located south of the French capital. Mistral projects the site will commence operations during Q2 2026.
Chief Executive Arthur Mensch emphasized the importance of European infrastructure expansion. “Scaling our infrastructure in Europe is critical to empower our customers and to ensure AI innovation and autonomy remain at the heart of Europe,” he stated.
Mistral has carved out its identity as a European counterweight to major American AI firms such as OpenAI and Anthropic. The organization delivers both advanced AI models and infrastructure solutions tailored for government agencies and corporate clients.
