Social media platform X will roll out a new feature called Starterpacks in the coming weeks. The tool will allow users to instantly follow curated groups of accounts based on their interests including cryptocurrency and Bitcoin.
Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, revealed the plan on Wednesday. He said the team spent several months finding and organizing top accounts across more than 1,000 different categories. The goal is to simplify the onboarding experience for new platform users.
The feature includes categories spanning cryptocurrency, business, technology, politics, and fashion. Preview footage demonstrated subcategories such as meme coin trading, software builders, crypto economics, and Bitcoin personalities.
Platform Discovery Issues
Bier explained that X functions as an interest-based social network. Unlike platforms built around contact lists, X requires users to manually discover and follow accounts to build their feeds. This process can take experienced users years to perfect.
The announcement follows data suggesting crypto activity on X may be decreasing. On Tuesday, Bitcoin cypherpunk Jameson Lopp shared statistics from social media entrepreneur Jean-Christophe Gatuingt. The figures revealed posts mentioning Bitcoin dropped 32% in 2025.
Bier previously stated that account growth represents one of X’s biggest obstacles. He noted that the platform delivers the most value when users explore niche communities beyond mainstream news and politics. Finding these specialized groups remains difficult for new accounts.
The X product team has worked for six months on improving the discovery experience. They tested different approaches daily to help new users find relevant content more efficiently. Starterpacks is the product of this ongoing development work.
Using Starterpacks Feature
The system lets users choose interests during account setup and immediately follow pre-assembled packs of accounts. Each pack contains carefully selected accounts that post regularly in specific topic areas. The cryptocurrency section offers multiple options for different user types.
People interested in meme coin trading can access a pack focused on that space. Users wanting Bitcoin technical content or economic analysis can select packs built for those subjects. The feature reduces the timeline-building process from years to moments.
Following Other Platforms
X is adopting a strategy already used by competitors. Bluesky, a decentralized social platform, introduced Starter Packs in June 2024. Users on Bluesky can build and distribute custom account lists centered on shared interests.
Meta’s X competitor Threads started testing comparable features in December 2024. Threads users can follow custom feeds assembled by other community members.
Bier stated X’s implementation includes over 1,000 ready-made packs covering general topics and specific niches. The crypto category provides several subcategories matching various preferences from day trading to long-term investing. All users will gain access when Starterpacks launches in the next few weeks.
