Chinese technology giant Huawei Technologies Group has formalized a strategic partnership with Vietnam’s SHB bank, representing another significant advance in the company’s expanding Vietnamese operations.
SHB publicly disclosed the partnership on Sunday. According to the agreement’s framework, Huawei will provide consultation on technological infrastructure planning and assist in creating sophisticated data management platforms. The Chinese firm will additionally ensure the bank’s operational systems maintain reliability and protection against security threats.
“This partnership with SHB represents a significant achievement in our Vietnamese market development strategy,” stated Spawn Fan, a high-ranking Huawei representative, in SHB’s official announcement.
This isn’t Huawei’s inaugural venture into Vietnam’s banking landscape. The technology provider maintains established collaborations with SCB, SeABank, and Home Credit, delivering services that span digital modernization, threat protection, information analysis, cloud infrastructure, and system optimization.
Expanding Vietnamese Operations
The SHB partnership reinforces what has evolved into a substantial presence for Huawei within one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic economies. Vietnam’s financial institutions have been aggressively investing in digital capabilities, with Huawei positioning itself as a key technology enabler.
Huawei’s expanding Vietnamese operations represent a notable shift in regional dynamics. Until recently, Vietnamese authorities maintained restrictions preventing Chinese corporations from participating in the nation’s 5G development.
This policy underwent reversal in 2024 when Huawei secured agreements to construct portions of Vietnam’s 5G telecommunications infrastructure. The SHB collaboration seems to extend this pattern — strengthening connections between Vietnamese organizations and Huawei across telecommunications and financial technology sectors.
Partnership Scope and Details
SHB ranks among Vietnam’s prominent private banking institutions. The collaboration with Huawei encompasses multiple domains: architectural technology planning, data platform creation, and continuous operational assistance for system reliability and security.
These represent substantial commitments. Constructing data infrastructure and technological frameworks for commercial banking requires extensive integration with fundamental banking operations.
According to the Vietnam Banks Association, Huawei’s financial sector activities in Vietnam concentrate on digital evolution, security infrastructure, data intelligence, cloud services, and banking performance enhancement — capabilities that align with the SHB agreement parameters.
The 5G infrastructure agreements Huawei obtained in 2024 marked a significant policy transformation from Vietnamese authorities. This strategic pivot enabled expanded engagement opportunities, with the SHB partnership serving as a tangible result of this new approach.
Spawn Fan, the Huawei executive referenced in SHB’s public statement, characterized the agreement as a significant achievement — both for SHB specifically and for Huawei’s comprehensive Vietnamese business objectives.
The Vietnam Banks Association has verified that Huawei’s current financial industry engagements include SCB, SeABank, and Home Credit, with the SHB partnership now expanding that portfolio.
