Micron Expands AI Memory Portfolio With Faster DDR5 RDIMM
Micron sampled the 256GB DDR5 registered dual in-line memory module to major server ecosystem partners. The module uses the company’s 1-gamma DRAM process and reaches speeds up to 9,200 MT/s. Moreover, the product delivers more than 40% higher speed than current production modules.
The company combined advanced 3D stacking technology with through-silicon vias to improve performance and efficiency. These packaging methods connect multiple memory dies and increase overall bandwidth for demanding server environments. Consequently, the module supports larger artificial intelligence models and high-core-count computing systems.
Micron stated that one 256GB module consumes over 40% less operating power than two 128GB modules. The lower power demand supports data center operators managing energy consumption and cooling requirements. Additionally, the product increases memory capacity per socket for enterprise and hyperscale infrastructure deployments.
Ecosystem Validation Supports Broader Server Deployment
Micron partnered with server ecosystem enablers to validate the new DDR5 RDIMM across existing and upcoming platforms.
