British bookmaker Bet365 has activated its Michigan platform, expanding the company’s American footprint to seventeen states. The operator announced the development last week while revealing strategic sports partnerships within the Detroit market.
The company formalized agreements with both the Detroit Tigers baseball franchise and the Detroit Red Wings hockey club. These collaborations reflect Bet365’s established pattern of aligning with local sports organizations as it enters new jurisdictions.
Michigan represents another milestone in an expansion campaign that started in 2019 following New Jersey’s acceptance of Bet365 as its inaugural US partner. This occurred one year after the nation’s highest court struck down PASPA, the federal prohibition on sports wagering.
Following that landmark Supreme Court decision, forty-one states have established regulated betting frameworks with multiple operator licenses. Industry data from the American Gaming Association shows $71.9 billion in iGaming revenue during 2024, representing the sector’s fourth consecutive annual record.
Promotional Strategy in the Great Lakes State
Bet365’s Michigan debut featured dual incentive programs. Casino participants can access 1,000 complimentary spins along with deposit matching worth up to $1,000. The sportsbook platform launched with a “Bet $10, Get $365” promotional structure.
This approach mirrors the company’s tactics in previous state launches. Missouri operations included a partnership with the St. Louis Cardinals baseball organization. More recently, Bet365 secured a comprehensive UFC sponsorship agreement spanning both American and Canadian markets.
Among European operators attempting American market penetration, Bet365 stands among the rare success stories. Flutter Entertainment’s FanDuel brand and Entain’s BetMGM partnership with MGM Resorts represent the only other European entities achieving significant US traction.
Numerous European competitors have encountered difficulties. Operators including Betfred, Betsson, Unibet, Betway, and Tipico launched American operations with mixed outcomes, generally failing to establish sustainable market positions.
Bay State Licensing Window Creates New Opportunity
Bet365’s expansion plans may extend beyond Michigan. Massachusetts Gaming Commission members voted unanimously on April 9 to reactivate the sportsbook licensing application process after receiving a formal request from the operator.
MGC Deputy Justin Stempeck indicated that Bet365 seeks a category 3 untethered license classification. This designation would enable operations independent of physical casino infrastructure within state boundaries.
Massachusetts maintains notably rigorous regulatory standards. The MGC has earned recognition as an exacting licensing authority, while certain state legislators have expressed skepticism toward the sports wagering industry.
Lawmakers have advanced SB 302, legislation designed to mitigate economic, health, and social consequences associated with sports betting. Bet365 will likely face scrutiny regarding responsible gaming protocols and player safeguards throughout the licensing evaluation.
The company may also encounter questions about historical operations in Asian territories, including China, as regulators conduct comprehensive compliance assessments.
Simultaneously, prediction market platforms have experienced rapid US growth. Services like Kalshi and Polymarket have attracted substantial user bases, particularly in Texas and California where traditional sports wagering remains prohibited.
Major operators FanDuel, DraftKings, and Fanatics have each launched prediction market offerings. All three organizations withdrew from American Gaming Association membership during late last year.
Bet365 became the fourth operator exiting the AGA in March 2026. This departure has triggered industry speculation regarding potential prediction market development plans.
However, no official confirmation has emerged. Bet365 and the other former AGA participants maintain active membership in the Sports Betting Alliance.
