The partnership involves a non-binding memorandum of understanding to establish the Galaxy Sharplink Onchain Yield Fund. Scheduled to commence operations within weeks, the initiative will start with $125 million in capital. Sharplink’s allocation consists of $100 million derived from its staked Ethereum reserves, while Galaxy Digital will contribute $25 million and assume responsibility for investment management activities.
The strategic vehicle will channel resources into DeFi liquidity platforms and various blockchain-based yield-generation mechanisms. The primary objective centers on generating supplementary income from Ethereum positions while maintaining the core asset holdings.
Sharplink maintains an extensive position exceeding 868,000 ETH within its corporate treasury. During October’s market peak, this portfolio achieved a valuation approaching $4 billion. The organization has been systematically accumulating Ethereum since June 2025 and has generated approximately 18,800 ETH through staking operations during this period.
Mike Novogratz, CEO of Galaxy, emphasized that institutional appetite for blockchain-based financial products has matured significantly, enabling investors to access sophisticated yield optimization, liquidity provision, and hedging mechanisms comparable to conventional financial instruments.
Joseph Chalom, who leads Sharplink as CEO, characterized the collaboration as a mechanism to enhance treasury performance while simultaneously supporting the development of the decentralized financial infrastructure. Matthew Sheffield, serving as Chief Investment Officer, noted that the framework preserves the company’s fundamental staked ETH position while creating incremental value for equity holders.
Sharplink Discloses $685.6M First Quarter Deficit
Concurrent with the fund announcement, Sharplink revealed a net deficit of $685.6 million for Q1 2026, equivalent to $3.25 per diluted share.
Approximately $506.7 million of this shortfall originated from mark-to-market losses on Ethereum holdings. The cryptocurrency experienced a steep decline from around $3,354 in mid-January to $2,104 at March 31, based on CoinMarketCap figures. At announcement time, prices had recovered moderately to approximately $2,339.
Quarterly revenue climbed to $12.1 million, representing significant growth from $700,000 in the corresponding period last year, propelled by operational business expansion. The organization concluded the quarter with $16.9 million in liquid reserves.
Galaxy Digital Navigates Losses While Maintaining Market Leadership
Galaxy Digital simultaneously released its first-quarter 2026 financial performance. The firm recorded a GAAP net deficit of $216 million, or $0.49 per share, primarily reflecting unrealized depreciation on cryptocurrency portfolios.
Transaction volumes within Galaxy’s Global Markets segment remained stable on a sequential basis, despite broader industry volumes contracting by over 25%. Wall Street analysts from H.C. Wainwright and Rosenblatt maintained Buy recommendations following the quarterly disclosure. Compass Point elevated its valuation target to $41 from $40, highlighting advances in the firm’s high-performance computing initiatives. Goldman Sachs retained a Neutral stance with a $21 objective.
Galaxy’s equity has appreciated 118.5% over the trailing twelve months and was valued at $29.01 at the time of disclosure. The organization’s current ratio of 1.7 indicates that liquid resources comfortably exceed near-term liabilities.
The fund partnership awaits completion of definitive legal documentation before achieving binding status.
