Shares of Akanda Corp. experienced a dramatic surge, climbing as high as 89% during after-hours trading Thursday, and maintaining approximately 57% gains in Friday’s pre-market session following an operational announcement from its fully owned Mexican division, First Towers & Fiber Corp.
The equity finished Thursday’s standard trading session at $5.01, representing a 7.05% decline, before after-hours activity propelled shares toward the $9.49 level.
FTF revealed that physical installation work on a 200-kilometer fiber optic infrastructure throughout Mexico has been finalized. Significantly, the initial segment spanning 100 kilometers received official approval from a network provider partner and has transitioned into active billing operations.
Revenue generation from this initial 100-kilometer segment is projected to commence between August and September 2026. This particular development appears to have catalyzed the sharp investor response.
The second 100-kilometer portion is scheduled for client validation by December 2026. Following approval, the complete infrastructure is forecast to achieve full operational cash flow generation beginning in January 2027.
Strategic Presence in Guanajuato
According to FTF, the fiber infrastructure spans the Irapuato-Silao industrial zone within Guanajuato, a territory the organization identifies as strategically important. This deployment aims to enhance FTF’s competitive positioning throughout Mexican markets.
Chris Cooper, President of FTF, characterized the announcement as representing “a meaningful step toward the recurring revenue growth we’ve been building toward.”
Beyond fiber operations, the division operates 28 functioning cellular tower installations through a passive leasing framework. This infrastructure contributes an additional predictable revenue component to the company’s financial profile.
Friday’s price movement occurred without accompanying analyst rating changes or competitive industry developments. Broader market indices remained relatively unchanged, with the Nasdaq advancing 0.2% and the S&P 500 gaining 0.1%. The AKAN rally appears entirely company-driven.
Small-Cap Stock With Significant Volatility
Akanda currently maintains a market capitalization of approximately $2.71 million. Trading data shows a 52-week peak of $209.03 contrasted against a 52-week floor of $2.30, illustrating the extreme price fluctuations characteristic of this security.
Throughout the trailing twelve-month period, AKAN has declined 94.80%. Technical indicators showed the stock’s RSI registered at 29.27 entering Thursday’s trading, positioning it near oversold levels.
AKAN has previously encountered Nasdaq listing compliance issues, which amplifies the significance of confirmed recurring revenue generation as a potential catalyst.
The progression from infrastructure development to active revenue generation, validated through formal client acceptance, represents the fundamental driver behind the substantial pre-market revaluation.
