The e-commerce and cloud computing giant is set to unveil its second-quarter 2026 financial performance this Thursday, July 30, following the closing bell. With shares trading near $231, market observers are preparing for potential volatility.
Investment firm Evercore ISI confirmed its bullish stance on Monday, maintaining an Outperform designation while holding firm on its $315 price objective. Analysts at the firm believe Wall Street’s Q2 revenue projection of $196 billion appears reasonable, with greater likelihood of upside surprises than disappointments.
The anticipated $196 billion in quarterly revenue would represent a 17% increase compared to the same period last year and 9% sequential growth from Q1. Over the trailing twelve-month period, the company’s revenue expanded 14% to $743 billion.
Evercore ISI highlighted Prime Day as a significant catalyst for the quarter. This year’s promotional event took place on July 12 and is projected to contribute between $5 billion and $10 billion in additional revenue during Q2.
The timing shift of Prime Day into Q2 this year, versus Q3 in prior years, prompted Evercore ISI to lower its third-quarter revenue forecast by 7% to $194 billion. This adjustment falls below Wall Street’s Q3 consensus of $204 billion.
Similarly, the firm reduced its Q3 operating income projection by 7% to $24.2 billion, marginally under the Street’s $25.1 billion expectation. The adjustments resulted in only a 1% reduction to full-year 2026 projections.
Cloud Business and Profitability Metrics Take Priority
The Amazon Web Services division remains the primary narrative as earnings approach. Market watchers will scrutinize revenue acceleration, infrastructure investments, customer pipeline developments, and margin trends.
AWS profitability serves as the principal engine driving the company’s consolidated margin profile. Analysts harbor concerns that elevated depreciation expenses stemming from aggressive capacity buildout could temporarily compress AWS margins.
Amazon has simultaneously accelerated investment in Project Leo, its ambitious satellite connectivity program. This spending has created margin headwinds and was specifically mentioned as a drag during Q1 guidance commentary.
Regarding capital expenditures, investors will assess progress toward the company’s $200 billion capex commitment for 2026. Given that management provides quarterly guidance rather than full-year outlooks, any Q3 commentary will receive intense scrutiny.
Independent Research Perspective
Investment research firm Morningstar maintains a four-star assessment on AMZN shares with a $280 intrinsic value calculation. Analysts there characterize the stock as moderately undervalued based on current market prices.
Morningstar’s financial models anticipate AWS revenue expanding at a 20% compound annual growth rate across the next five years. The advertising segment is forecast to deliver 18% annual growth during the identical timeframe.
Overall company revenue is modeled to achieve an 11% CAGR through 2030. GAAP operating margins are projected to expand from 11% in 2025 to approximately 14% by decade’s end.
Amazon concluded 2025 with $123 billion in cash and marketable securities balanced against $65.6 billion in outstanding debt. Morningstar has awarded the company a Wide economic moat designation.
Bank of America Securities similarly reaffirmed a Buy recommendation prior to the earnings announcement, lifting its Q2 revenue estimate to $198.8 billion, surpassing consensus expectations. BofA established its Q2 EBIT forecast at $24.1 billion.
Options market pricing currently suggests a potential share price movement of 6.4% in either direction following the earnings disclosure.
