Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) traded near $246.96 during Monday’s session and maintained modest gains after an early decline. Meanwhile, the company announced a $10 billion investment in Missouri for a new data center campus. The project aims to expand Amazon Web Services infrastructure while supporting jobs and local economic activity.
Amazon Expands AWS Infrastructure in Missouri
Amazon selected Montgomery County, Missouri, for the large-scale data center development. The company expects the project to create more than 400 permanent positions. Additionally, construction activity will generate thousands of temporary jobs across the region.
The new campus will support the growing demand for cloud computing services. These services power remote work platforms, healthcare systems, financial operations, and streaming applications. Consequently, Amazon continues expanding its infrastructure to meet rising digital requirements.
The company did not disclose a construction timeline or opening date. However, the facility will strengthen AWS capacity in the United States. Moreover, the investment adds to Amazon’s broader strategy of expanding data center operations nationwide.
Community Benefits and Infrastructure Commitments
Amazon committed more than $7 million toward community programs in Montgomery County. The package includes funding for emergency dispatch services and public gathering facilities. The company allocated resources for education, workforce training, and nonprofit support.
A separate $150,000 community fund will provide grants for local projects. Nonprofit organization ChangeX will manage the program on Amazon’s behalf. As a result, community groups can seek funding for projects worth up to $10,000.
Amazon also reached infrastructure agreements linked to the project. Under arrangements with Ameren Missouri, Amazon will cover all grid connection expenses. The company will build water supply lines before transferring ownership to the local water district.
Investment Builds on Amazon’s Regional Growth
The planned campus will generate significant tax revenue over the coming decades. According to company estimates, the project could contribute hundreds of millions in property taxes. Previously, the development site produced less than $9,000 annually in property tax revenue.
Amazon has operated in Missouri since 2017 through fulfillment centers and delivery facilities. The company also maintains Whole Foods Market locations across the state. Amazon’s Missouri workforce now exceeds 10,000 employees.
The announcement follows another major infrastructure commitment from Amazon. Last year, the company revealed a separate $10 billion AWS expansion project in North Carolina. That investment included hundreds of new jobs and support for STEM education programs.
