Shares of BlackRock soared approximately 5% to reach $1,078 during Wednesday’s premarket session following the release of second-quarter financial results that exceeded analyst expectations across all key performance indicators.
The company delivered earnings per share of $13.91, comfortably beating the Street’s $12.57 projection. Total revenue reached $7.08 billion compared to analyst forecasts of $6.72 billion ā representing a robust 31% year-over-year growth rate.
For the first time in company history, assets under management surpassed the $15 trillion threshold, settling at $15.3 trillion. This figure represents substantial growth from the $12.5 trillion recorded in the second quarter of 2025, marking a 22% annual expansion.
The substantial AUM growth stemmed from a powerful combination of favorable market conditions and robust client capital inflows. During the second quarter alone, BlackRock attracted $192 billion in net new client assets.
This quarterly performance pushed the firm’s first-half net inflows to $321 billion ā establishing a new company record for any six-month period since inception.
The inflows demonstrated remarkable diversification across product categories. Exchange-traded funds, private market strategies, active fixed-income products, and systematic equity approaches all generated substantial interest. No single category dominated the growth story.
The revenue surge extended beyond mere market appreciation. The company attributed gains to organic base fee expansion, elevated performance fee generation, and meaningful contributions from the HPS private credit platform acquisition finalized twelve months earlier.
Profitability Metrics Improve
Adjusted operating income jumped 39% to reach $2.92 billion for the quarter. The company’s adjusted operating margin widened to 45.9%, compared to 43.3% recorded in the second quarter of 2025.
This margin improvement deserves attention. Achieving growth while simultaneously expanding profitability represents a significant accomplishment in the competitive asset management industry.
Enhanced Capital Returns
During the second quarter, BlackRock executed $450 million in stock buybacks and revealed plans to accelerate this program to $550 million quarterly moving forward.
Chief Executive Larry Fink expressed strong confidence in his official statement. “Market fundamentals are strong and well supported, with higher margins and earnings momentum catalyzed by new technology,” he noted.
He continued: “Our momentum is accelerating, and I’ve never been more optimistic about the growth ahead.”
Prior to this earnings announcement, BLK shares had declined 4.2% year-to-date, trailing the S&P 500’s marginal 0.6% advance.
Wall Street sentiment remained constructive entering the earnings release. The majority of equity analysts maintain buy recommendations on BLK, with a consensus price target of $1,264 ā suggesting approximately 18% appreciation potential from pre-announcement trading levels.
The HPS Investment Partners acquisition, finalized a year ago, is now generating visible financial contributions to the top line.
Organic base fee growth for the quarter registered at 10% ā a metric that signals authentic client demand rather than passive market-driven expansion.
