BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes executed a strategic Ethereum purchase this week, accumulating 1,290 ETH valued at roughly $2.5 million via the FalconX trading platform. He transferred capital beforehand, indicating a calculated accumulation strategy rather than spontaneous market entry.
Hayes has established a pattern of building positions during periods of market uncertainty. This particular entry garnered significant attention since ETH remained beneath critical resistance thresholds during his purchase window, implying he recognized the prevailing price levels as favorable accumulation zones.
Exchange flow metrics revealed net positive inflows totaling $5.58 million, indicating slightly more ETH transferred onto trading platforms than withdrawn. Though this pattern sometimes signals potential selling pressure, the volume remained relatively subdued when measured against earlier 2025 spikes.
Derivatives Activity Reflects Bullish Market Structure
Futures market indicators reinforced the optimistic outlook. Open Interest climbed 2.2% to reach $11.97 billion, demonstrating fresh capital deployment into derivatives contracts. Funding Rates experienced a dramatic 3,092% surge within 24 hours, hitting 0.003479—evidence that long position holders were accepting premium costs to maintain exposure.
Market analyst Ali Charts identified $1,580 as the critical accumulation threshold, noting ETH’s subsequent 20%+ appreciation following its test of this multi-year support foundation.
Ethereum spot exchange-traded funds strengthened the bullish narrative, registering $104 million in net capital inflows during the July 20–24 trading week. This marked the third consecutive week of positive fund flows, per data from Wu Blockchain.
Historical Cycle Patterns Point Toward $10,000–$20,000 Zone
Crypto analyst Patel presented a bi-weekly chart drawing parallels between ETH’s present market structure and the cycles culminating in 2017 and 2021. Each historical pattern featured an initial surge, subsequent correction, and accumulation period preceding the next major expansion phase. His technical framework identifies $10,000 as a significant long-term objective, with extended peak potential spanning $16,000–$22,500.
Another analyst, Freedom By 40, released a monthly timeframe projection suggesting a potential $20,000 target by 2028, derived from a calculated 1,900% advance from the lower boundary of ETH’s established trading range.
Both technical frameworks require ETH to maintain support within the $1,000–$1,350 corridor while ultimately breaking through the previous all-time high positioned near $4,800.

ETH presently trades around $1,864, with nearby support established at $1,830 and resistance positioned at $1,945. The subsequent major resistance barrier stands at $2,145.
