- Biden acknowledged the failure and promised to “make it right,” though specific compensation plans remain unclear
The $LAPTOP meme coin, launched by Hunter Biden this Wednesday, experienced a catastrophic failure within minutes, devastating the vast majority of early participants who purchased the token.
The cryptocurrency took its name from the laptop scandal that has surrounded Biden in recent years. According to Biden, this symbol had transformed into a representation of “resilience, redemption and recovery” in his personal journey.
The initial trading activity was frenetic. The token’s value skyrocketed from approximately $2.39 to a staggering $316 on certain exchanges before plummeting below $4. Alternative data sources reported the peak at roughly $190. Regardless of the exact figures, the decline was catastrophic.

Biden attributed the disaster to the project’s market maker, who allegedly provided merely $5,000 in liquidity during launch despite substantial market interest. This inadequate liquidity pool created conditions for extreme price volatility.
“There was a f–k up. The f–k-up occurred in the first 30 seconds of launching the coin,” Biden stated in a video he shared on X this Friday.
During its momentary surge, the token’s hypothetical fully diluted valuation climbed to $144 billion, as reported by CoinDesk, despite lacking sufficient liquidity to justify such a figure.
Biden observed that the market capitalization temporarily exceeded BlackRock’s valuation, which stands above $175 billion. He described the price movement as resembling “Mount Everest.”
A Single Winner Emerges
One unidentified trader successfully converted approximately $250,000 into $1.18 million in a matter of minutes. This represents roughly $930,000 in gains before accounting for transaction fees, as determined by blockchain analytics company Datavault AI.
Conversely, another investor who purchased around $200,000 worth of tokens near the price peak saw their holdings crash to a mere $2,000 value following the collapse.
Analysis from blockchain research firm Bubblemaps revealed that approximately 80% of participants sustained financial losses. Over 15,000 digital wallets recorded negative returns, with the majority of individual losses falling below $1,000.
A minority fared considerably better. According to CryptoSlate’s findings, 88 wallets collectively generated $5.6 million in profits from the token’s launch.
Biden Accepts Blame
Biden revealed he had dedicated six months to developing the project and participated in all aspects of its development, including the token’s architecture and public rollout strategy.
He emphasized that neither he nor his collaborators liquidated any tokens. Team members were subject to a six-month lockup period, which prevented them from selling during the price spike.
“This is my f–king token,” Biden declared. “At the end of the day, it’s my responsibility, and there was a f–k up.”
He indicated the team is focusing on enhancing liquidity levels and trading activity moving forward.
Biden stopped short of announcing specific compensation measures for affected investors, but he pledged his continued commitment to the venture.
“I am in this to the end 100%, and I promise you that we’re gonna make it right,” he affirmed.
