Key Highlights
- Hyperliquid preparing to enable open deployment of HIP-4 outcome markets through upcoming upgrade, beginning with testnet phase
- Standardized outcome templates will require validator approval and be maintained onchain
- Market deployers must lock 500,000 HYPE tokens for a six-month period
- Initial deployment allocation includes 100 outcomes (equivalent to 200 outcome tokens) per deployer
- Market creators can establish fee structures up to a maximum of 50%
In a significant development, Hyperliquid has revealed intentions to introduce permissionless deployment capabilities for its HIP-4 outcome markets through an upcoming network upgrade. The rollout strategy prioritizes testnet deployment ahead of mainnet activation.
The platform disclosed these plans via Telegram on Sunday. According to Hyperliquid, the underlying technology requires comprehensive validation within validator environments before opening permissionless access to the broader user base.
Unlike traditional spot or perpetual futures trading, outcome markets encompass a significantly broader spectrum of tradable events. Given this expanded scope, Hyperliquid emphasized that permissionless deployment represents a critical component for scaling the feature’s adoption.
Template Framework Explained
To maintain transparency and uniformity in market operations, validators will conduct votes on authorized outcome market templates. These standardized templates will be recorded and executed onchain.
After receiving approval, any qualifying deployer can utilize these templates to establish their own markets. The system permits multiple deployers to create separate markets using identical templates.
Market deployers bear responsibility for defining and resolving each market according to the template’s specifications. While validators retain the option to deploy canonical markets directly, Hyperliquid anticipates these instances will remain uncommon — projecting fewer than 10 annually.
Token Requirements and Penalty Framework
Individuals seeking to deploy HIP-4 markets face a mandatory requirement to stake 500,000 HYPE. Validators possess authority to slash this stake partially or completely through voting mechanisms if markets exhibit poor construction, improper settlement, or fail to settle within seven days following outcome determination.
The staked amount remains locked throughout a six-month timeframe. Additionally, deployers cannot initiate unstaking procedures until all active markets under their control have been properly settled.
Initial deployment capacity provides each deployer with allocation for 100 outcomes, representing 200 outcome tokens. Questions involving multiple outcomes consume additional slots, though completed outcomes release capacity for subsequent deployment.
Plans include introducing an auction system for allocation expansion as a subsequent enhancement.
Market creators will have flexibility to establish fee structures reaching up to 50% on their deployed markets. Enhanced fee configuration capabilities are scheduled for integration in a future protocol iteration.
Hyperliquid introduced HIP-4 during May of this year. The prediction market functionality generated approximately $100 million in trading activity throughout its inaugural month.
Current proposal specifications remain subject to revision. Hyperliquid indicated the framework may undergo modifications based on community input, with additional details forthcoming following testnet deployment.
