IBM Expands ServiceNow AI Partnership
IBM and ServiceNow announced an expanded collaboration aimed at helping large enterprises scale AI across business operations. The companies said the partnership will address two major barriers to enterprise AI. Those barriers include outdated application layers and fragmented data environments.
The agreement brings IBM’s software and automation portfolio into closer alignment with the ServiceNow AI Platform. It also supports companies that want to modernize systems without replacing their entire technology base. As a result, enterprises can upgrade older platforms while keeping existing operations stable.
ServiceNow will use IBM’s enterprise data capabilities to strengthen its Workflow Data Fabric. IBM will also bring tools linked to modernization, governance, and infrastructure automation. Therefore, the companies aim to create a broader operating layer for enterprise AI deployment.
Legacy Systems Remain A Core Challenge
Many large companies still depend on older systems that connect deeply with daily operations. These systems often slow AI projects because they limit access to clean and usable data. However, replacing them can create high costs and operational risks.
IBM and ServiceNow plan to address that issue through application modernization tools. The planned solutions include IBM Bob, Enterprise Application runtime for Java, and IBM watsonx.data. These tools will scan, refactor, and update legacy applications for AI use.
The collaboration also targets enterprise data governance through IBM watsonx.data and ServiceNow Data Catalog. The companies said the setup will support data quality, observability, and master data management. In turn, businesses can prepare data for AI workflows with stronger oversight.
Autonomous IT Operations Drive The Next Phase
The companies will also work on autonomous infrastructure operations for large enterprise customers. IBM will integrate Red Hat Ansible, Instana, Hashicorp Terraform, and Hashicorp Vault into ServiceNow IT workflows. These integrations aim to detect and resolve issues before they affect business systems.
The partnership places AI adoption inside existing enterprise workflows rather than separate pilot programs. That approach may help companies reduce friction between data teams, IT teams, and business units. It also supports broader automation across complex technology environments.
The joint solutions are expected to become available in the second half of 2026. IBM and ServiceNow said the future plans remain subject to change or withdrawal. Still, the announcement gives IBM stock a clear enterprise AI catalyst after its midday breakout.
