Shares rallied Thursday following the announcement, though the stock remains approximately 17% off its 2025 peak entering Friday’s trading. In early premarket activity, LMT held steady at $568.60.
The most remarkable figure from the quarterly report was the order pipeline. Lockheed closed the second quarter with an unprecedented $230.4 billion in unfilled orders ā representing approximately $64 billion in growth year-over-year. The defense contractor achieved a book-to-bill ratio of 3.2-to-1, indicating $3.20 in fresh contracts secured for each dollar of recognized revenue.
This massive backlog resulted from significant contract wins. Throughout the quarter, Lockheed secured major agreements including a $35 billion THAAD interceptor program and a $3 billion GMLRS deal, contributing to $65 billion in total new business.
Free cash generation showed substantial improvement, reaching $2.9 billion in the second quarter. This represents a strong recovery from previous program setbacks and supply chain challenges that had previously constrained operations.
