Equity futures posted strong gains Monday morning as energy prices tumbled and market participants braced for a critical week packed with economic catalysts.
Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 1.1%, equivalent to approximately 551 points. Contracts tracking the S&P 500 rose roughly 1%, while Nasdaq 100 futures surged 1.6%.

Monday’s rally followed a challenging week where all three benchmark indices declined as escalating Middle Eastern conflict drove energy prices higher and intensified concerns about persistent inflation.
Crude Collapse Alleviates Inflation Concerns
Market sentiment pivoted over the weekend following President Donald Trump’s decision to halt aerial strikes against Iran, creating space for renewed diplomatic engagement. The Wall Street Journal confirmed the development through sources with direct knowledge of the situation.
Brent crude futures plummeted approximately 5% to reach $87.13 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate tumbled 5.5% to settle at $84.37.
The energy sell-off triggered a corresponding decline in government bond yields. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield decreased 4 basis points to 4.64%.
According to Kathleen Brooks, research director at XTB, the cessation of hostilities has “dramatically reduced the geopolitical risk premium” embedded in asset prices.
Central Bank Policy Decision Approaches
The Federal Reserve will deliver its latest monetary policy announcement Wednesday. Current market pricing via the CME FedWatch tool indicates a 66% probability of unchanged rates versus a 34% likelihood of an additional increase.
The retreat in oil prices may provide the central bank additional flexibility, as policymakers have closely monitored inflation indicators before determining their next course of action.
This decision ranks among the most opaque Fed announcements in recent memory, leaving market participants grappling with genuine uncertainty about the outcome.
Technology Sector Earnings Season Intensifies
Concurrent with the Fed meeting, investors will scrutinize quarterly results from several technology behemoths.
Microsoft, Meta Platforms, Apple and Amazon will all deliver financial reports throughout the week. Market focus will center on capital allocation strategies and any concrete updates regarding artificial intelligence revenue generation.
Heightened scrutiny of AI-related expenditures follows recent capital spending disclosures from Alphabet and Tesla that triggered volatility across the technology sector.
Additional companies reporting include Coca-Cola, Starbucks, Procter & Gamble and Arm Holdings. Energy giants ExxonMobil and Chevron will conclude the week’s earnings releases.
AstraZeneca and Nucor Corporation launch Monday’s earnings calendar.
The convergence of a Federal Reserve policy decision, plummeting energy prices and a concentrated period of Big Tech financial disclosures creates one of the most catalyst-dense weeks this quarter.
