Shares of Meta Platforms experienced a decline of approximately 1% to the $640 mark during Monday’s pre-market session, erasing the 0.57% advance recorded in the previous trading day.
The pullback came on the heels of regulatory disclosures revealing that Christopher Cox, serving as Meta’s Chief Product Officer, divested 20,000 company shares on September 9 in transactions valued at approximately $13 million. These stock disposals were executed according to a Rule 10b5-1 trading arrangement that Cox established in May 2026.
The filing detailed that Cox disposed of 18,578 shares at a weighted average price of $650.21, with an additional 1,422 shares sold at $651.15. Following these transactions, his remaining holdings include 244,516 shares maintained through a revocable trust and 55,046 shares held via an irrevocable remainder trust.
The CPO’s stock sale wasn’t an isolated event. Chief Operating Officer Javier Olivan divested 5,354 shares generating approximately $3.3 million in proceeds, while Chief Accounting Officer Aaron Anderson sold 3,240 shares worth roughly $2 million. Each of these divestments occurred under pre-established trading plans.
Notwithstanding this series of stock sales, TipRanks’ Insider Trading Activity monitoring tool currently registers a Neutral assessment for Meta regarding recent insider transactions. Company insiders have simultaneously acquired approximately $2.3 million in stock during the trailing three-month period.
Wedbush Maintains Hold Position Following Muse Unveiling
The stock encountered additional headwinds as a pair of analysts refrained from elevating their investment ratings despite Meta’s introduction of its new artificial intelligence agent, Muse.
Ygal Arounian of Wedbush sustained a Hold recommendation on META shares on September 11, though he lifted his price objective 9% from $595 to $650. This revised target suggests merely 0.30% appreciation potential from present trading levels.
Arounian recognized Muse as representing a significant advancement in Meta’s artificial intelligence strategy but characterized the financial returns as still developing. His ranking stands at #2,929 among 12,499 analysts monitored on TipRanks.
Oppenheimer Identifies Three Major Obstacles for Muse
Jason Helfstein from Oppenheimer assigned the stock a Buy rating but declined to establish a price target, expressing uncertainty about Muse’s capacity to produce revenue streams for Meta.
Helfstein highlighted three particular challenges: insufficient consumer readiness to pay for such services, intense rivalry from Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT platforms, and consumer hesitation to entrust Meta with sensitive password information.
His assessment concluded that Muse Agent does not represent “a game changer” for the organization.
Alternative perspectives exist among the analyst community. Evercore ISI reaffirmed its Outperform stance with an $860 price objective. JPMorgan elevated META from Neutral to Overweight while increasing its target to $820, referencing artificial intelligence developments and products including Muse and Meta Model API accessibility. KeyBanc maintained its Overweight designation with a $780 target.
Meta recently unveiled Muse Spark 1.3, which CEO Mark Zuckerberg characterized as representing the company’s most substantial advancement in coding and agentic functionalities to this point.
Examining the broader Street perspective, META carries a Strong Buy consensus recommendation derived from 38 Buy ratings and 6 Hold ratings issued during the preceding three months. The average analyst price target stands at $759.43, implying approximately 17% upside potential from current price levels.
