Oracle has launched another wave of workforce reductions, with staff members receiving termination notifications via email on Monday informing them their positions were being eliminated as part of “broader organizational change.”
The notification, reviewed by Business Insider, informed impacted personnel that Monday marked their final workday. Employees received severance packages consisting of four weeks of base compensation plus one additional week for each year of tenure.
Messages from individuals identifying as terminated employees surfaced on LinkedIn, Reddit, and Blind beginning Monday.
Business Insider previously disclosed last month that Oracle was preparing for additional workforce reductions. Internal documentation revealed certain divisions faced potential cuts surpassing 10%.
These new eliminations follow earlier reductions implemented this year. Oracle’s employee count decreased by 21,000 workers, representing a 13% decline, throughout the fiscal period concluding May 31, 2026. Approximately 141,000 employees remained before the current reduction cycle began.
ORCL shares retreated 3.65% following the announcement.
AI Investment Strategy Behind Workforce Reductions
The job eliminations correlate directly with Oracle’s ambitious artificial intelligence infrastructure expansion. The corporation disclosed $28.5 billion in capital investments during its first quarter, representing a significant increase from $8.5 billion in the corresponding period one year prior.
Oracle has reaffirmed its fiscal 2027 capital expenditure projection between $90 billion and $95 billion. This substantial investment level has necessitated the company accumulating tens of billions in corporate debt.
As expenses accelerate rapidly, reducing workforce expenditures has emerged as a key mechanism management employs to control the balance sheet while sustaining momentum on AI infrastructure development.
Oracle’s latest quarterly results featured certain encouraging elements, with cloud segment expansion among notable achievements, though financial analysts remain skeptical regarding long-term returns from the debt-intensive approach.
Ellison Terminates Planned Stock Divestiture
A distinct matter attracted investor focus this week. Larry Ellison recently cancelled a predetermined trading arrangement that would have permitted him to divest as many as 50 million ORCL shares, representing approximately $7.5 billion in market value.
Zero shares were transacted under the arrangement prior to its cancellation. The rationale behind terminating the plan remains undisclosed.
Oracle has issued no official statement regarding the latest workforce reductions. An Oracle representative did not provide responses to Business Insider’s inquiries for comment.
