North American Success Fuels Playtech’s Strong Year Opening
On Wednesday, Playtech issued a trading statement covering the initial third of 2026, providing shareholders with an update following the company’s annual general meeting. Chief Executive Mor Weizer characterized the period’s performance as “excellent.”
The statement emphasized superior-to-anticipated outcomes throughout the Americas territory, with the United States and Mexico standing out as primary performance engines.
Playtech’s American operations have experienced steady development in recent years. According to Weizer, the returns from these strategic investments are now gaining velocity and delivering substantial contributions to bottom-line performance.
The Mexican market continues to flourish through the company’s Caliplay collaboration with Caliente Interactive. Playtech formalized an enhanced strategic framework with Caliente during September 2024 to broaden their cooperative efforts.
Weizer emphasized the approaching World Cup tournament as a significant opportunity to solidify Caliente’s market dominance in Mexico. This alliance has emerged as a crucial growth engine for the technology provider throughout the previous twelve months.
Outside the Americas, Playtech indicated that specific European jurisdictions contributed meaningfully to its impressive opening period. The organization’s live casino division recorded what management termed a “solid performance” throughout these months.
Weizer conveyed optimism regarding the company’s trajectory. He referenced Playtech’s growth in licensed jurisdictions, geographically diverse operations, and adaptable technology infrastructure as factors positioning the organization favorably for continued advancement.
Strategic Assessment of Sun Bingo Amid UK Taxation Changes
Notwithstanding the encouraging Americas performance, Playtech confronts obstacles in the United Kingdom. The organization’s consolidated revenue for fiscal year 2025 declined 10% to €763.6 million.
During the post-FY25 financial results presentation, Chief Financial Officer Chris McGinnis disclosed that Playtech had initiated an operational assessment of its white label Sun Bingo operation. This evaluation emerged as a direct response to the substantial Remote Gaming Duty escalation.
The British government elevated Remote Gaming Duty from 21% to 40% effective April 1 of this year. McGinnis stated that this rate renders Sun Bingo economically unviable.
Weizer’s Wednesday trading update did not include progress details on this assessment. McGinnis had earlier indicated his conviction that Sun Bingo retains strategic value within Playtech’s business mix over the long term, considering its business-to-business attributes.
In a separate announcement, Playtech revealed that senior independent director Ian Penrose plans to depart from the board. Penrose has contributed to board governance since 2018.
He has committed to maintaining his responsibilities until the organization publishes its full-year 2026 financial results. Playtech emphasized this arrangement will facilitate an orderly succession process.
Non-executive chairman John Gleasure expressed appreciation for Penrose’s service spanning nearly nine years. Gleasure noted that Penrose contributed extensive international industry expertise to the organization.
Playtech anticipates Penrose will continue his tenure through spring 2027. The company extended its best wishes for his subsequent professional pursuits.
