TLDR
- ELAB rebounds as NorthStrive advances exclusive defense drone license
- PMGC stock gains pre-market after multi-domain drone license update
- NorthStrive signs drone license tied to air and water payload systems
- ELAB volatility follows PMGC defense drone prototype research plan
- PMGC targets maritime autonomy with new drone payload license deal
PMGC Holdings Inc. (ELAB ) stock rebounded before the market opened after its NorthStrive unit advanced a defense drone license agreement. ELAB closed at $1.54, down 8.88%, before rising to $1.6299, up 5.84%, in pre-market trading. The move followed sharp chart volatility after an early spike, as traders reacted to the multi-domain drone update.
ELAB Stock Rebounds After Drone License Update
NorthStrive Defense Tech, a wholly owned PMGC Holdings subsidiary, signed a binding term sheet for exclusive drone technology rights. The agreement covers U.S. Patent No. 12,291,334 within aerospace and defense technology markets. Besides that, the license gives NorthStrive worldwide rights to develop and commercialize the patented platform.
The patent covers a drone system that moves cable-suspended payloads across air and water. An aerial vehicle flies above the surface while towing a payload through water. This design uses buoyancy-assisted movement to improve payload efficiency across difficult maritime environments.
The term sheet also gives NorthStrive sublicensing rights for defense and dual-use applications. Hence, the company becomes the main commercial access point for the licensed technology. The license term runs for the life of the patent, subject to a final definitive agreement.
NorthStrive Adds Research Program For Prototype Development
NorthStrive also signed a sponsored research agreement with the licensor to move the platform toward prototype testing. The research term runs for 12 months, from June 2026 to June 2027. The program uses milestone-based funding tied to design, fabrication, testing and final reporting.
The research work will test trajectory control and hydrodynamic stability for suspended payloads. It will also assess tow-line tension, drag, flight energy, and payload stability. The program aims to produce a working small-payload UAS prototype with documented test results.
New inventions from the research will remain owned by the licensor under the agreement. However, NorthStrive receives a royalty-free internal license for non-commercial use. The company also gets the first option to negotiate a commercial license for new inventions.
PMGC Targets Defense And Maritime Autonomy Markets
PMGC framed the license around rising demand for multi-domain unmanned systems and maritime autonomy. The company linked the technology to defense uses across coastal, riverine, and underwater operating areas. Moreover, possible applications include payload transport, sensor deployment, underwater object recovery, and aquatic heavy-load movement.
The background fits a broader defense shift toward unmanned platforms across sea, air, and seabed environments. Recent coverage has highlighted AUKUS work on uncrewed undersea vehicles for cables and seabed infrastructure. Meanwhile, the U.S. Navy has pursued unmanned surface vessels that can carry payloads over long distances.
PMGC said NorthStrive will continue assessing aerospace, defense, autonomous systems, and dual-use technology opportunities. The company may use licensing, acquisition, research, and strategic collaboration to expand that portfolio. Still, the latest ELAB rebound mainly followed the drone license update and the planned prototype pathway.
