ServiceNow delivered impressive second-quarter performance that exceeded analyst projections. The cloud-based workflow automation provider announced Wednesday evening results that surpassed expectations on both revenue and profitability metrics, triggering a positive market response in Thursday trading.
The company generated quarterly revenue of $3.98ā$3.99 billion, representing a 24% increase from the prior-year period and beating the Wall Street consensus of $3.93 billion. Non-GAAP earnings reached $0.90 per share, topping analyst estimates that ranged from $0.85 to $0.86.
Shares jumped approximately 5.5% in early pre-market activity to reach $100.67, though gains moderated to roughly 2% by the close of Thursday’s regular trading session.
Chief Executive Bill McDermott characterized the performance as exceptional, noting the results “solidify our position as the fastest-growing major enterprise software and cybersecurity company.”
Prior to the earnings release, NOW stock had declined nearly 38% year-to-date, pressured by market concerns surrounding softer enterprise software expenditures and potential artificial intelligence disruption. Thursday’s positive movement provided some respite, although shares remain well below year-opening levels.
Artificial Intelligence Revenue Outlook Strengthens
Company leadership increased the 2026 AI annual contract value projection by 50%, elevating the target to $1.5 billion on the back of better-than-anticipated customer uptake. This represents a significant acceleration in a segment that has captured substantial investor attention.
J.P. Morgan’s Mark Murphy highlighted an “odd lull” in organic constant-currency current remaining performance obligation (cRPO) expansion as an area of continued concern. His view suggests cautious investor sentiment may persist until growth metrics demonstrate a return to previous trajectory levels.
Regarding full-year projections, ServiceNow elevated its subscription revenue forecast. For the third quarter, executives provided guidance for subscription revenue between $3.975 and $3.98 billion, indicating roughly 20.5% year-over-year expansion, alongside cRPO growth of approximately 19.5%.
Murphy observed that the conservative guidance increase might prompt investor questions about why accelerating AI traction isn’t more prominently visible in the numbers. He anticipates management will provide additional clarity during the forthcoming Financial Analyst Day presentation.
Analyst Community Maintains Positive Outlook
Murphy preserved his Overweight rating while reducing his price target to $145 from $195. Even with the adjustment, this objective suggests approximately 49% upside potential from current trading levels. He contends that bearish perspectives anticipating below-historical valuation multiples are “overdone to the downside.”
Jefferies analyst Samad Samana maintained his Buy rating and increased his price target from $135 to $140. Evercore ISI’s Kirk Materne retained an Outperform rating while lifting his target from $150 to $160.
Overall on Wall Street, ServiceNow carries a Strong Buy consensus rating derived from 26 Buy recommendations, 2 Hold ratings, and 1 Sell rating. The average analyst price target stands at $140.65, implying approximately 44% upside potential over the coming 12 months.
Murphy emphasized ServiceNow’s capability to enable customers to “do more with less” as a critical value proposition amid tightening corporate software budgets. He views the current deceleration as comparable to previous temporary slowdowns that preceded renewed acceleration.
The company’s upcoming Financial Analyst Day represents the next major event where leadership is anticipated to provide enhanced visibility into long-term objectives and strategic growth initiatives.
