Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., TMO
The life sciences equipment maker had faced headwinds earlier this week after competitor Danaher (DHR) delivered a lackluster forward outlook, making Thursday’s strong performance a significant relief for sector investors.
The company reported adjusted earnings per share of $6.03, significantly outpacing the analyst consensus of $5.72. This figure marks approximately 13% growth compared to the year-ago period.
Quarterly revenue for the period concluding June 27, 2026 totaled $11.99 billion, representing a 10% increase from the $10.85 billion recorded in the comparable quarter of 2025. Wall Street had anticipated $11.71 billion.
The company achieved 5% organic revenue growth throughout the quarter, driven by robust demand spanning its diverse business portfolio.
The Laboratory Products and Biopharma Services division emerged as the primary growth engine, generating $6.69 billion in revenue ā representing approximately 55.8% of consolidated sales. This segment expanded roughly 12% on a year-over-year basis.
The Life Sciences Solutions segment contributed $2.8 billion, reflecting about 13% growth, while the Analytical Instruments division added $1.8 billion, climbing approximately 7%.
Company Elevates 2026 Full-Year Projections
Leadership took advantage of the earnings announcement to increase its full-year financial targets. The company now projects adjusted EPS in the range of $24.93 to $25.33, an upgrade from the previous guidance of $24.64 to $25.12. Analyst consensus had been positioned at $24.85.
Revenue guidance for the full year also received an upward revision, moving to $47.4 billion to $48.1 billion from the prior range of $47.3 billion to $48.1 billion. The updated midpoint now surpasses the $47.76 billion Wall Street forecast.
Chief Executive Marc Casper stated the organization is “well positioned to deliver a great 2026” as it reaches the year’s midpoint.
Adjusted operating margin improved to 22.8% from 21.9% in the corresponding period last year. GAAP diluted earnings per share increased 9% to $4.68.
Shareholder Returns and Innovation Initiatives
Throughout the quarter, Thermo Fisher executed $1.0 billion in share repurchases and revealed intentions to divest its microbiology operations as part of ongoing portfolio optimization efforts.
The organization also unveiled its latest-generation Orbitrap platforms featuring artificial intelligence-powered analytics capabilities and inaugurated a state-of-the-art Bioprocess Design Center in Plainville, Massachusetts.
Casper attributed the impressive results to the company’s PPI Business System framework and what he described as “excellent execution” delivered by the organization’s workforce.
The second-quarter performance serves as a reassuring data point for investors concerned about broader sector weakness following Danaher’s underwhelming Q3 2026 guidance issued earlier in the week.
