Kentucky American Water Starts Owen County Infrastructure Work
Kentucky American Water began several projects in Owen County to strengthen local water service. The work includes main replacements on Greenup Road, Highway 845, and US 127. It also includes a new booster pump station at the Owen County Fairgrounds.
The Greenup Road and Highway 845 project covers the section near 3735 Greenup Road and Lucas Lane. Crews will replace 5,263 feet of older 6-inch PVC main with ductile iron main. The existing line dates back to the early 1970s and needs renewal.
The US 127 project covers the route between Industrial Park Road and Jonesville Road. Crews will replace more than three miles of aging 6-inch water main. The new 8-inch ductile iron pipe should support stronger flows for homes and businesses.
Upgrades Aim To Support Supply, Flow, And Fire Protection
The new booster pump station will support increased water supply north of Owenton. Kentucky American Water expects the station to improve system performance in that part of the county. The added capacity should also support future service reliability.
The company said the projects form part of its planned infrastructure investment program. These upgrades aim to reduce service interruptions and support consistent water quality. They also reinforce water flows that help daily use and fire protection.
Local service demand requires steady system maintenance and targeted upgrades. Older pipes can increase repair needs and limit water movement across growing service areas. Therefore, replacement projects help utilities manage reliability and long-term operating pressure.
Construction Work Moves Forward Across Key Routes
Crews on Greenup Road and Highway 845 will usually work Monday through Friday. The expected work window runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Crews on US 127 will follow the same general schedule.
Kentucky American Water said access to homes and businesses will remain open during construction. Crews will also coordinate with customers when work affects driveway access. Temporary surface restoration will follow excavation work where crews disturb roads or property.
Davis Excavating will handle work on Greenup Road and Highway 845. Buchanan Contracting will perform work on US 127, while local authorities will support traffic control. Crews will maintain emergency access, clean sites daily, and complete restoration after project work ends.
American Water Maintains Large Regulated Utility Footprint
American Water remains the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the United States. The company traces its history to 1886 and marks 140 years in 2026. Its regulated businesses serve about 14 million people across 14 states.
The company also provides services on 18 military installations through its wider operating network. Its workforce includes about 7,000 professionals across utility operations and related service functions. This scale gives American Water a broad role in public water infrastructure.
Kentucky American Water operates within that larger regulated utility structure. The Owen County projects show how local upgrades connect with wider capital planning. As a result, the company continues to focus on system reliability and service quality.
