Morgan Stanley confirmed its bullish stance this week, issuing a $300 price objective and arguing the stock presents compelling value when adjusted for growth metrics.
Wall Street’s overall rating consensus stands at “Moderate Buy,” with a mean price target of $218.68. The breakdown includes three Strong Buy ratings, twenty-seven Buy recommendations, seven Hold positions, and seven Sell ratings.
However, not all analysts share this optimism. Susquehanna moved its rating to Underperform during August. HSBC initiated coverage with a Hold stance and a $115 price objective.
Catalysts Behind the Price Movement
Multiple developments are converging rather than a single catalyst driving the move. SpaceX rebranded its artificial intelligence unit from SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI, reflecting the Trump administration’s initiative to replace “artificial intelligence” terminology with “super intelligence.”
Elon Musk has also acknowledged discussions with TSMC (TSM) regarding a specialized chip manufacturing facility. The Terafab project would potentially include participation from Intel (INTC) and Tesla (TSLA) as well.
Bernstein projects SpaceX’s AI-related revenue could expand nearly 500% over the coming year. Additionally, industry sources indicate Microsoft has explored leasing AI computing infrastructure from SpaceX, though no agreement has been finalized.
On the launch operations front, SpaceX executed three separate missions within approximately 13 hours this week. The company is also preparing to retry a U.S. Space Development Agency launch that was postponed due to weather conditions.
The Starship program continues progressing as well. After successful test flights in July and September, SpaceX plans up to two additional test missions this month—Flight 15 and Flight 16—although only one launch is anticipated within the next 25 days.
Renewed Government Appointment Draws Attention
Musk is rejoining a Trump Administration initiative, preparing to co-chair the Pentagon’s Project Meridian with Newt Gingrich and Palmer Luckey of Anduril. Considering SpaceX’s substantial federal contracting relationships, this development carries significance for market participants.
Analyst Ali Martinez connected October’s breakout directly to Musk’s military engagement in commentary on X. He highlighted both SPCX and Tesla attempting technical breakouts during the same period.
Martinez predicts SPCX could advance another 5% to $180 if momentum persists. He similarly identified TSLA’s potential trajectory toward $450 contingent on first clearing the $400 level.
Not all indicators point upward, however. SpaceX’s current valuation remains a concern for conservative analysts, who caution that considerable future expansion is already reflected in the share price.
There’s also noteworthy insider activity. COO Gwynne Shotwell divested 342,170 shares on September 22 at an average of $153.57 per share, totaling approximately $52.5 million.
This transaction occurred under a pre-established Rule 10b5-1 trading arrangement and reduced her ownership position by roughly 12%. She maintains more than 2.4 million shares, currently valued around $379.6 million.
Regarding financial performance, SpaceX reported a quarterly loss of $0.09 per share, outperforming the consensus forecast of a $0.26 loss. Quarterly revenue reached $7.81 billion, representing 92% growth compared to the prior year.
The stock’s 50-day simple moving average stands at $139.62. SpaceX maintains a market capitalization of $2.26 trillion and operates with a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.29.
