Shares of Oklo (OKLO) surged approximately 7% during Friday’s opening session following the release of second-quarter earnings that revealed an expanded loss but delivered revenue figures that substantially surpassed Wall Street expectations.
By mid-session, the stock had moderated to gains of roughly 4% as traders digested the mixed financial results.
The company generated $1.2 million in quarterly revenue, significantly outpacing the analyst consensus projection of merely $83,800.
However, the per-share loss registered at $0.28, falling short of expectations for a $0.16 loss. While the top-line performance exceeded forecasts, profitability metrics disappointed.
The quarterly net loss ballooned to $48.5 million from $24.7 million during the comparable quarter last year. Wall Street had anticipated a net loss closer to $25.5 million.
Management attributed the expanding deficit to elevated research, development, and operational expenditures. Combined R&D and operating costs surged to $39.5 million from $11.5 million year-over-year, substantially exceeding the Bloomberg consensus projection of $23.3 million.
Robust Liquidity Position
A particularly notable metric was the company’s cash position. Oklo closed Q2 with $3 billion in combined cash and marketable securities, comprising $1.66 billion in cash and cash equivalents plus $1.4 billion in marketable securities.
This liquidity cushion expanded by $1.9 billion throughout the first six months of the year, driven by the successful execution of the company’s at-the-market equity offerings.
The cash balance also surpassed analyst projections, which had forecasted $1.05 billion in cash and equivalents.
For the first half of 2026, Oklo registered a net loss of $81.6 million. Operational losses totaled $124.2 million, encompassing payroll, equity-based compensation, general administrative costs, and professional service fees.
These losses were partially mitigated by $44.5 million in combined interest and dividend income.
Investment Phase Accelerates
Operating activities consumed $65.5 million in cash during Q2. On a year-to-date basis, operational cash burn reached $81.6 million.
Investing activities utilized $912.7 million in cash year-to-date, including $743.6 million in net acquisitions of marketable securities related to the ATM program, alongside $126.9 million in capital expenditures for property, plant, and equipment distributed across the company’s three operating divisions.
The expenditure trajectory clearly indicates that Oklo is navigating an aggressive growth and investment cycle, expanding operations throughout its business segments.
The revenue outperformance deserves contextual consideration. While $1.2 million remains modest in absolute terms, it exceeded analyst projections by more than fourteen-fold.
Oklo concluded Q2 2026 holding $3 billion in aggregate liquidity, representing an increase of $1.9 billion during the year’s first half.
