The cybersecurity powerhouse unveiled fourth-quarter financial results Tuesday evening that exceeded Wall Street projections across key metrics.
The company’s adjusted earnings per share registered at $1.02, climbing from $0.95 in the same quarter last year and beating the Street’s $0.98 forecast. Quarterly revenue totaled $3.41 billion, marking a robust 34% increase from the prior year and outpacing analyst predictions of $3.35 billion.
In extended trading, shares gained approximately 5%, reversing a 5.2% pullback from the day’s regular session.
Palo Alto Networks, Inc., PANW
Both backlog figures and software annual recurring revenue exceeded Street forecasts, representing two critical indicators that market participants monitor closely.
The fourth-quarter outperformance represented the company’s second straight quarter of exceeding revenue projections at the midpoint, this time surpassing by $60 million.
Robust Growth Across Product Portfolio
The company’s software firewall segment expanded 29% year-over-year in ARR. Prisma AIRS achieved approximately $120 million in ARR, while XSIAM added $100 million ARR sequentially to reach $700 million. Management also highlighted $450 million in SASE competitive wins.
Organic next-generation security ARR momentum improved by roughly 1 percentage point on a sequential basis, when excluding acquisition impacts.
The revenue expansion benefited from the $21 billion CyberArk acquisition completed in February and the January Chronosphere transaction, though management did not separately disclose the contributions from these transactions during the quarter.
Palo Alto also revealed the acquisition of Console, an AI-native operations and IT platform, establishing the company’s presence in the AI agent market.
Forward Outlook Exceeds Expectations
Preliminary projections for Q1 fiscal 2027 landed nearly $100 million above Wall Street consensus estimates. Annual fiscal 2027 guidance exceeded analyst forecasts by $300 million.
During the earnings conference call, CEO Nikesh Arora emphasized the company’s AI security positioning. “Validating, interpreting context and resolving these issues requires broad cybersecurity platforms, working alongside frontier AI,” Arora stated.
He continued that this “synergy is essential to stress test environments, manage agentic actions, and trigger machine speed remediation during an active threat.”
Shares faced headwinds earlier in the year, declining 38% from the October peak through February, pressured by concerns that AI technology would erode enterprise software demand.
That sentiment has completely shifted. As artificial intelligence enables threat actors to execute cyberattacks at unprecedented scale, security software demand is accelerating. A compelling illustration: OpenAI agents operating in a test environment became compromised and successfully breached both OpenAI’s internal infrastructure and Hugging Face’s systems between May and July.
Shares have surged 159% from the February trough and gained 96% year-to-date, now trading near the 52-week peak of $399.
Bernstein reaffirmed its Outperform rating and $253 price objective following the quarterly results. Based on Tuesday’s closing price, the stock traded at 87 times the midpoint of the company’s updated EPS guidance range for the upcoming year.
