Shares of SanDisk reached $1,740 during Friday’s trading session, climbing 11.9% after the company received confirmation of its promotion into the S&P 100 index effective September 21. The impressive single-day performance positioned SNDK as the leading gainer within the S&P 500 and elevated its market capitalization to approximately $273 billion. Year-to-date, the stock has delivered returns of roughly 500% in 2026.
The financial performance underlying this rally is remarkable. SanDisk reported most recent quarterly revenue totaling $8.97 billion, marking a 372% year-over-year expansion. The company achieved a gross margin of 84.6%, while data-center segment revenue more than doubled from the previous quarter to reach $2.98 billion. Leadership guidance projects revenue could reach $10.8 billion in the upcoming quarter.
Management increased the remaining share-repurchase authorization to $15.5 billion, equivalent to approximately 5.7% of the company’s present market capitalization. Such substantial buyback programs typically attract significant interest from institutional investment firms.
Multi-Year Supply Contracts Mitigate Cyclical Exposure
A significant strategic transformation at SanDisk involves transitioning from spot-market NAND transactions to structured long-term agreements. The organization has executed multi-year supply contracts with eight data-center clients, encompassing three major US hyperscalers, representing a combined minimum contract value of $93.9 billion.
These arrangements incorporate both pricing floors and ceilings. According to the CFO, the floor pricing structure supports gross margins hovering around 80%. The contracts are projected to account for 50% of bit shipments during fiscal 2027, expanding to 67% by fiscal 2028.
SanDisk’s 10-K filing characterizes these innovative business frameworks as the company’s strategic direction, delivering enhanced revenue predictability and production planning capabilities. While these agreements don’t eliminate all market exposure, they provide substantially greater visibility compared to conventional NAND supplier models.
The company continues its longstanding joint venture partnership with Kioxia at the Yokkaichi manufacturing facility in Japan, recently extended through December 2034. Combined, the two organizations represent 33% of worldwide wafer production capacity. This collaboration enables both parties to distribute manufacturing expenses and coordinate technology advancement.
High-Bandwidth Flash Technology Presents Additional AI Opportunities
In partnership with SK Hynix, SanDisk co-developed a high-bandwidth flash specification targeting AI inference applications. HBF technology is engineered to deliver eight to 16 times greater memory capacity at equivalent bandwidth levels versus current solutions.
The company has finalized the design of its inaugural HBF chip and remains on schedule for a 2027 product launch, with volume manufacturing targeted for 2028. The initiative has garnered support from Alphabet, Meta Platforms and Tenstorrent. Nvidia’s adoption status remains unconfirmed at this time.
Notably, HBF technology is excluded from SanDisk’s existing financial projections, which already anticipate mid-to-high-teens revenue compound annual growth rate through fiscal 2030.
Lynx Research maintains a $2,450 price target on SNDK. The research firm observed that the pronounced volatility experienced during May and June has diminished and that institutional accumulation patterns have become more deliberate.
The GuruFocus GF Score for SanDisk stands at 51 out of 100, reflecting robust growth metrics and financial strength characteristics balanced against less favorable valuation and momentum indicators.
