The aerospace manufacturer announced Tuesday that it delivered 60 aircraft during May, representing a 33% year-over-year improvement compared to May 2025. Shares of BA declined 0.39% during the trading session.
Despite the improvement, the figures remain below competitor Airbus, which announced 81 aircraft deliveries during the identical period.
Among the 60 total deliveries, the 737 MAX accounted for 51 units. This represents the model’s strongest monthly delivery performance since manufacturing operations resumed in December 2024, following the conclusion of a labor dispute that suspended production activities.
The manufacturer is preparing to accelerate 737 production capacity from its current rate of 42 aircraft monthly to 47 units, with implementation scheduled for the summer months.
May brought 27 fresh orders to the company’s books. This figure encompasses 14 737 aircraft designated for military conversion by a customer whose identity remains confidential.
Lufthansa contributed one of the month’s most significant transactions with a commitment for 10 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
The manufacturer also processed 16 737 MAX order cancellations throughout May, resulting in a net order total of 11 aircraft for the period.
737 MAX Drives Production Resurgence
The 737 MAX program remains at the core of Boeing’s manufacturing recovery efforts. May’s 51 deliveries signal substantial progress from the program’s position several months earlier.
The upcoming production increase to 47 aircraft monthly this summer will serve as a critical indicator of the company’s ability to sustain this positive trajectory.
Additional May deliveries comprised six 787 Dreamliner aircraft, one 777 cargo aircraft, and one 767 freighter.
The 787 program remains constrained by ongoing certification challenges connected to premium cabin seating arrangements, which continues to impact production volumes for this model.
Performance Through May
As of May’s conclusion, the company has delivered 250 aircraft during 2026. The 737 MAX program accounts for 198 of these deliveries.
Total new orders through May reached 324 units, with 29 cancellations or order modifications recorded, producing a net order count of 295 aircraft year-to-date.
The manufacturer’s outstanding order backlog totaled 6,178 aircraft as of May 31.
