Friday morning saw stock index futures climb modestly as Wall Street attempted to rebound from Thursday’s dramatic downturn. A decline in Treasury yields provided some relief to market participants, although concerns persisted with Brent crude hovering around $93 per barrel.
Ross Stores emerged as the session’s top performer in early trading, advancing between 8.5% and 9%. The discount retail chain delivered second-quarter revenue of $6.3 billion, representing a 14% increase from the prior year. Comparable store performance improved 10%, while the company posted earnings of $2.66 per share.
The quarterly performance benefited from a $253 million tariff reimbursement through the IEEPA initiative, providing a significant boost to profitability. Management elevated its annual EPS forecast to a range of $8.61 to $8.77, substantially above the prior projection of $7.50 to $7.74. The retailer also announced an expansion strategy that includes opening 115 new locations in 2026, exceeding earlier plans.
Digital Currency Equities Rally on Legislative Developments
Coinbase advanced 5.6% in premarket activity, while Robinhood gained 5.3%, and Strategy jumped 10% before the market open. These cryptocurrency-exposed stocks have experienced upward momentum throughout the week following President Donald Trump’s appeal to lawmakers to advance the Clarity Act, legislation aimed at establishing clearer digital asset regulations.
Strategy’s impressive performance also reflected Bitcoin’s remarkable ascent. The leading cryptocurrency posted gains of nearly 22% across five consecutive trading sessions, reaching approximately $78,500. This surge transformed Strategy’s Bitcoin portfolio from substantial losses into an estimated unrealized gain of $1.4 billion.
During July when Bitcoin traded at $58,000, Strategy faced unrealized losses exceeding $13 billion. Friday’s valuation represents a dramatic reversal from those earlier lows.
Moderna Rebounds Following Turbulent Trading
Moderna stock recovered 4% on Friday morning after experiencing a 24% decline in the previous session. Thursday’s selloff occurred as traders locked in profits following the stock’s earlier surge tied to encouraging clinical trial data for a personalized cancer treatment developed in partnership with Merck.
OSI Systems plummeted 14% following a fourth-quarter revenue report of $484.1 million, representing a 4.1% year-over-year decrease and falling approximately $45.6 million short of analyst projections. The company’s fiscal 2027 revenue guidance of $1.875 to $1.93 billion also disappointed, coming in below the $1.94 billion consensus forecast.
Aveanna Healthcare Holdings declined 9% after current shareholders executed a secondary offering of 15 million shares priced at $11.75 each. The company emphasized it is not issuing additional equity and will not collect any funds from the transaction.
Flowers Foods retreated 5% after second-quarter sales of $1.19 billion fell $40 million below expectations. Management also reduced its full-year revenue and profit guidance to levels beneath analyst estimates.
By Friday morning, equity markets were staging a cautious comeback, with cryptocurrency-related stocks and Ross Stores’ exceptional quarterly performance driving the session’s most significant positive movement.
