Shares of SanDisk experienced an impressive 11.9% climb on Friday, September 5, reaching $1,740 per share. The rally followed the announcement that SNDK will enter the S&P 100 index prior to trading hours on September 21.
The memory chip manufacturer has delivered exceptional returns in 2024, climbing 633% year-to-date as AI infrastructure investment accelerates. However, shares remain over 25% beneath their 52-week peak of $2,354.39. The annual low stands at $67.86.
Based on present trading levels, SNDK carries a forward valuation of approximately 8 times anticipated fiscal 2027 earnings. This multiple indicates market expectations for potential earnings compression in coming periods.
The company delivered $6.9 billion in quarterly net income most recently, benefiting from substantial memory price appreciation. Fiscal 2026 revenue reached $20.25 billion, representing a 175% year-over-year expansion.
Strategic Agreements Provide Revenue Stability
Anticipating cyclical memory market volatility, SanDisk has established 10 strategic supply partnerships with eight data center and edge computing clients. The company refers to these as New Business Model contracts.
These arrangements obligate purchasers to specific flash memory volumes across a weighted average exceeding four years, extending up to five years in duration. Pricing structures combine fixed and flexible elements, with the flexible components bound by minimum and maximum thresholds.
Under minimum pricing scenarios across all partnerships, SanDisk secures no less than $93.9 billion in total revenue throughout the contract periods. While this represents cumulative rather than annual revenue, it establishes substantial downside protection for a business generating $20.25 billion annually.
Additionally, clients have committed $16.5 billion through cash reserves and alternative financial mechanisms as performance guarantees. Should any purchaser withdraw prematurely, SanDisk maintains legal recourse.
Contracted Volume Expansion Continues
Company leadership anticipates these partnerships will account for over half of aggregate bit shipments during fiscal 2027, which commenced in July. This proportion is projected to approach two-thirds by fiscal 2028.
The secured order backlog continues expanding rapidly. Outstanding performance commitments increased from $41.6 billion in early April to $59.8 billion by July 3. Two additional partnerships finalized after fiscal year-end contribute another $31.3 billion not yet reflected in reported figures.
CFO Luis Visoso indicated the organization anticipates “attractive margins even at floor pricing.”
Nevertheless, these minimum prices don’t eliminate all risk exposure. Approximately half of current year volumes continue trading at prevailing market rates. Furthermore, the multi-year financial model unveiled at August’s investor presentation forecasts adjusted gross margins approaching 80% for fiscal years 2028 through 2030, representing a decline from the 84.6% achieved last quarter.
First quarter fiscal 2027 projections anticipate revenue between $10.3 billion and $10.8 billion, accompanied by non-GAAP gross margin spanning 83% to 85%.
According to TipRanks, SNDK carries a Strong Buy rating based on 14 analyst recommendations, including two Hold assessments. The consensus price target stands at $2,201.56, suggesting approximately 27% appreciation potential from present valuation.
