Venture Global delivered a split second quarter performance on Tuesday, surpassing earnings expectations while coming up short on the top line. Shares retreated 7.1% in premarket activity to $13.25.
The company’s adjusted earnings per share reached 51 cents, climbing from 14 cents in the prior-year period and topping Street expectations of 48 cents. Top-line figures expanded 48% year-over-year to $4.58 billion, though this trailed analyst projections of approximately $4.66-$4.69 billion.
Even with the revenue shortfall, shares had gained 109% year-to-date heading into Tuesday’s trading session, significantly outpacing the broader S&P 500 index.
The revenue underperformance stemmed primarily from mounting cost challenges throughout the organization. Operating and maintenance expenditures soared 54% during the three-month period.
Cost of sales increased 17% while interest expense escalated 58% to $489 million. Overall operating expenses advanced 15.9% to reach $2.39 billion.
Declining domestic natural gas prices represented a significant headwind for financial performance. The Calcasieu Pass operation experienced a 63% year-over-year decline in operating income, attributed to compressed pricing and reduced facility fees following its transition to full commercial operations.
Plaquemines Fuels Expansion
The Plaquemines facility emerged as the performance highlight, maintaining its production acceleration and commissioning momentum throughout the quarter. This project accounted for the majority of Venture Global’s volumetric expansion.
LNG sales volumes advanced 42% to reach 466.4 trillion British thermal units (Btu) during the period.
Management also increased its Calcasieu export projection to 149-154 cargoes, compared with the previous guidance range of 147-154.
The Plaquemines forecast was tightened to 351-364 cargoes from the earlier range of 349-369.
Enhanced Guidance
Venture Global boosted its full-year 2026 adjusted core profit projection for the consecutive second quarter.
The updated guidance range stands at $8.7 billion to $9.1 billion, representing an increase from the previous outlook of $8.2 billion to $8.5 billion.
Management now anticipates fixed liquefaction fees of $12.50-$13.50 per million Btu for unsold 2026 cargoes, elevated from the prior range of $9.50-$10.50.
Second quarter adjusted core profit totaled $2.49 billion, marginally below the analyst consensus of $2.50 billion.
The company highlighted that supply disruptions related to Middle East tensions and increasing European demand have strengthened market interest in U.S. LNG exports.
Global buyers have been pursuing long-term agreements as additional export capacity enters the worldwide marketplace.
Shares finished Monday’s session with a 7.5% gain before retreating 7.1% to $13.25 in Tuesday’s premarket trading.
