Key Highlights
- Advanced Micro Devices unveiled its Helios rack-scale AI infrastructure platform Thursday at an event in San Francisco, aiming squarely at Nvidia’s market leadership.
- The Helios platform integrates Instinct MI455X GPUs, EPYC Venice CPUs, Pensando networking technology, and ROCm software as a unified solution.
- The chipmaker secured a partnership with Anthropic for deploying up to 2 gigawatts of Instinct MI450 GPUs, with AMD committing up to $5 billion in equity investment.
- Azure will incorporate Helios systems for frontier model inference operations, with Microsoft receiving shipments beginning in late 2026.
- Despite Nvidia commanding over 95% of the data center GPU segment, AMD maintains approximately 4.5% market share while achieving 57% year-over-year data center revenue growth to $5.78 billion in Q1 2026.
Advanced Micro Devices is mounting its most ambitious offensive yet in the AI infrastructure battle, unveiling cutting-edge hardware alongside significant enterprise partnerships ā though the gap with Nvidia remains substantial.
Shares of AMD climbed approximately 1.45% Thursday as the semiconductor company commenced its artificial intelligence hardware presentation at San Francisco’s Moscone West venue.

At the heart of the announcement sits Helios, AMD’s inaugural rack-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure. The system integrates Instinct MI455X GPUs, EPYC Venice CPUs, Pensando networking silicon, and ROCm software into a unified architecture optimized for AI training and inference operations.
Helios represents AMD’s competitive response to Nvidia’s comparable rack-scale offerings. Nvidia presently commands more than 95% of the data center GPU landscape. AMD occupies roughly 4.5% of this market, based on Futurum Group data referenced by CNBC.
The company is simultaneously introducing the Venice CPU for data center deployments at the event ā a processor that has been under development for an extended period.
The product launch arrives on the heels of multiple partnership revelations earlier in the week that provided AMD with substantial commercial validation entering Thursday’s presentation.
Anthropic Collaboration Details
Wednesday brought news of AMD’s collaboration with Anthropic to implement up to 2 gigawatts of Instinct MI450 Series GPUs within Helios infrastructure. The initial gigawatt deployment is scheduled to commence during the first half of 2027.
As part of the arrangement, AMD is making a strategic equity commitment of up to $5 billion in Anthropic.
The companies will engage in a multi-year engineering partnership. The objective centers on leveraging Anthropic’s Claude AI to enhance workload performance on AMD Instinct GPUs and accelerate advancement of AMD’s ROCm software infrastructure.
Additionally, AMD will implement Claude throughout its internal engineering and product development operations.
Tom Brown, co-founder and chief compute officer at Anthropic, stated: “By partnering with AMD across the stack, we are securing the capacity we need and optimizing it for training and serving Claude.”
Microsoft Collaboration
Earlier in the week, AMD announced an expansion of its existing relationship with Microsoft. The agreement calls for Microsoft to integrate Helios infrastructure on Azure for executing frontier model inference operations.
AMD anticipates initial Helios shipments to customers ā including Microsoft ā will commence during the latter half of 2026.
Previously, in October 2025, AMD disclosed a multiyear arrangement with OpenAI potentially generating tens of billions in annual revenue. That agreement provides OpenAI with the option to acquire approximately 10% of AMD.
AMD’s data center business segment generated $5.78 billion in revenue during Q1 2026, representing a 57% increase compared to the equivalent period one year earlier. The expansion was fueled by robust demand for EPYC server processors and Instinct GPU deliveries.
CEO Lisa Su commented that the Anthropic partnership “brings together Anthropic’s leadership in frontier AI with the full strength of AMD high-performance computing.”
AMD has now secured committed customers including Anthropic, Microsoft, and OpenAI for its next-generation artificial intelligence hardware portfolio ā representing a meaningful escalation in its competitive position against Nvidia.
