TLDR
- Governance Proposal 346 secured approval with 97.27% support from Akash Network’s community.
- SPL token deployment on Solana scheduled within two to three weeks pending final audits.
- One-directional 1:1 conversion portal remains active for a 24-month period.
- Current staking income terminates at migration point; validator operations conclude 90 days afterward.
- Final transition date pending separate community vote and additional approval.
Token holders in the Akash Network have greenlit a significant infrastructure shift, moving the protocol off its Cosmos-based blockchain onto Solana. The community passed Governance Proposal 346 on November 2, 2026, recording 97.27% affirmative votes.
The approved plan outlines notable sacrifices for current AKT participants. Staking yields and token inflation on the existing chain will terminate once the marketplace completes its transition, while approximately 100 network validators will see their operational responsibilities eliminated.
The voting window opened October 26 and closed November 2. Participation hit 69.52% of bonded stake, comfortably exceeding the 33.40% quorum threshold.
Approximately 59.98 million AKT supported the measure. Opposition tallied around 796,071 AKT, while 888,416 AKT registered abstentions and 765 AKT cast veto votes.
What Changes for AKT Holders
Approval paves the way for AKT’s debut as a Solana Program Library token. Launch timing is projected at two to three weeks post-vote, contingent on completing audits for both the token contract and migration infrastructure.
Token owners will convert their holdings at a 1:1 ratio to SPL AKT via a portal accessible for two years. The replacement token maintains the identical ticker symbol and employs 6 decimal places, with aggregate supply remaining unchanged.
Conversion operates in one direction only. AKT transferred through the portal exits circulation on the legacy chain, akashnet-2, with no reversal mechanism available.
Staked holdings can complete migration in a single portal interaction. This action initiates the 21-day unbonding countdown, processes outstanding rewards and schedules both components for Solana transfer.
Centralized exchanges will handle customer balance transitions according to their individual timelines, while Console-managed wallets receive automatic migration. AKT positioned on Osmosis or alternative IBC-connected chains requires withdrawal to akashnet-2 beforehand, and no SOL holdings are necessary for conversion.
Prior to the transition point, AKT on the current infrastructure continues covering transaction fees, generating staking income and enabling governance participation. The proposal leaves the exact transition date unspecified.
Why Akash Picked Solana
Akash identified that operating a sovereign chain imposed full infrastructure costs without leveraging its unique capabilities. The core development team additionally shoulders maintenance of forked repositories including cosmos-sdk, CometBFT and gogoproto.
Solana emerged victorious following an open request for proposals and evaluation of seven candidates measured against 15 mandatory criteria. Exclusively Solana mainnet and one existing EVM layer 2 satisfied every requirement.
The proposal projects daily network fees for complete marketplace operations at approximately 0.075 SOL. Analysis suggests marketplace activity would cost roughly 9 times less compared to an EVM layer 2 during normal conditions and approximately 300 times less during congestion.
Akash will relinquish independent consensus mechanisms, native IBC connectivity and real-time slashing. Certain operations, including deployment terminations and bid reimbursements, will execute through automated workflows.
The Solana Foundation has committed engineering resources, audit assistance and gas subsidy support, though the migration plan maintains independence from this backing. Rishin Sharma, who leads AI growth initiatives at the Solana Foundation, expressed the organization was “thrilled to welcome” Akash.
Founder Greg Osuri characterized selecting Solana as “marks an important milestone” toward the objective of transforming compute into a liquid resource. Akash Marketplace, AkashML and Akash Homenode will become natively accessible on Solana.
Marketplace migration awaits successful audit completion, a minimum six-week provider testnet involving 25 or more operators, and a 14-day community dress rehearsal concluding with zero critical issues. A distinct cutover proposal must additionally secure approval.
Following the transition, active leases will continue operating for 90 days before the legacy chain discontinues. Akash indicated the token launch date will receive announcement via official communication channels and cautioned that phishing represents the primary security risk, with only one legitimate portal domain.
