Key Highlights
- HyperLabs released 433,025 HYPE tokens (approximately $23.46M) and transferred them via Flowdesk to major exchanges OKX and Bybit
- Blockchain analyst Ember verified that 75,000 HYPE (roughly $4.19M) was swapped to USDC on the Hyperliquid platform
- HYPE price hovered around $54.60 on Aug. 9, declining from approximately $56.16 on Aug. 7, sitting 28% under its June high of ~$77
- Platform gross revenue has declined 43% from Q3 2025’s peak of roughly $357M to approximately $202M in Q2 2026
- Platform open interest reached an all-time high of $11B on July 13, though builder fee distribution through HIP-3 now accounts for 18% of gross revenue
On Aug. 8, HyperLabs executed an unlock of 433,025 HYPE tokens valued at approximately $23.46 million, routing them through market maker Flowdesk before directing them to exchange wallets at OKX and Bybit.

Blockchain monitoring service Lookonchain initially detected these transfers, labeling them as “likely to sell.” This designation represents an assessment based on wallet behavior patterns rather than definitive proof of sale execution, as tokens transferred to exchanges may serve multiple purposes including custody arrangements or market-making operations.
Additional blockchain analysis from Ember offered more concrete evidence regarding a portion of the unlock. From the 165,000 HYPE channeled through Flowdesk, 75,000 tokens valued at approximately $4.19 million were directly converted to USDC on the Hyperliquid platform itself. An additional 90,000 HYPE worth around $5.04 million arrived at deposit wallets on OKX and Bybit exchanges.
The disposition of the remaining tokens from the complete 433,025 unlock remains unverified through blockchain records.
HYPE settled near $56.16 on Aug. 7 before sliding to approximately $54.06 on Aug. 8. While this decline aligned temporally with the team’s token movements, timing correlation alone cannot definitively establish causation for the entire price action.
Platform Revenue Slides Despite Volume Records
This token release occurs during a challenging period for Hyperliquid’s revenue performance. Platform gross revenue reached its zenith at approximately $357 million in Q3 2025 and has experienced consecutive quarterly declines, landing at roughly $202 million in Q2 2026 ā representing a 43% contraction, based on DefiLlama metrics.
Platform open interest achieved a milestone of $11 billion on July 13. Hyperliquid currently processes approximately 9% of global perpetual contract positions, expanding from below 7% in late May.
The divergence between volume expansion and revenue contraction primarily results from HIP-3, an initiative introduced in October 2025 that enables participants staking 500,000 HYPE to launch custom perpetual markets while retaining up to half of generated trading fees. Markets deployed by builders have expanded from approximately 2% of perpetual volume at 2026’s start to roughly 50% of total volume currently.
Revenue costs climbed from below 6% of gross revenue in Q2 2025 to 18% one year subsequently.
Tokenized Real-World Asset Markets Dominate Activity
Perpetual contracts tracking real-world assets ā encompassing crude oil, gold, Nvidia stock, Tesla shares, a Nasdaq-100 index product, and pre-IPO offerings like SpaceX ā achieved record open interest of $3.6 billion this month. During the July 13-19 period, tokenized equity and commodity products generated $25 billion in trading volume, representing 52% of weekly activity.
Trade.xyz commands over 90% of total HIP-3 open interest. Earlier this week, a single transaction on an illiquid Korean pre-market platform caused Trade.xyz’s SK Hynix contract to plunge 19%, triggering liquidations that the company has subsequently committed to compensate.
Spot HYPE exchange-traded funds recorded their initial weekly net outflow during the week ending July 17, totaling approximately $7 million and breaking a nine-week accumulation trend.
The Assistance Fund acquired approximately $149 million worth of HYPE in Q2 2026, declining from nearly $290 million in Q3 2025.
Blockchain data from Lookonchain observed that notwithstanding recent institutional distribution, three recently established wallets withdrew 165,425 HYPE valued at $9.16 million from FalconX during the preceding five days ā indicating continued accumulation interest at present price levels.
Despite recent selling by institutions, some whales are still accumulating $HYPE.
