Key Points
- On October 27, Lynq and ZeroBeta unveiled a collaboration enabling institutions to pledge tokenized U.S. Treasuries as collateral.
- These digital assets can secure loans and provide margin for cryptocurrency trading activities without halting interest accumulation.
- BlueShift, ZeroBeta’s platform, handles risk assessment and margin calculations, while Lynq manages collateral custody and movement on Avalanche.
- Lynq’s platform currently safeguards over $89 million in digital assets and serves more than 40 institutional participants.
- Neither organization revealed which institutions are using the service or disclosed specific transaction volumes.
Lynq and ZeroBeta have connected their infrastructure on the Avalanche network, enabling financial institutions to utilize tokenized U.S. Treasury securities as collateral. These digital representations of government debt can simultaneously secure borrowing arrangements and cryptocurrency trading positions while generating ongoing yield.
The collaboration was revealed on October 27. It bridges Lynq’s settlement infrastructure with BlueShift, ZeroBeta’s risk management and collateral administration platform.
Financial institutions can now commit qualifying assets as security without transferring them away from the network. According to Lynq, this approach eliminates the traditional dilemma where collateralized assets cease generating returns during the pledge period.
Operational Framework for Digital Collateral
The mechanism depends on Lynq’s collateral lock functionality. This feature secures assets in escrow arrangements while preserving their ability to generate interest.
BlueShift establishes lending terms and tracks margin requirements. Lynq maintains custody of the collateral and executes pledge and release transactions based on instructions from BlueShift.
In secured lending scenarios, BlueShift directs Lynq to commit a tokenized Treasury security to a lending counterparty. When collateral valuations breach predetermined levels, BlueShift can request supplementary collateral or authorize partial releases.
For cryptocurrency trading applications, BlueShift computes the margin necessary for existing positions and prospective orders. Qualified Treasury token holdings can be committed to satisfy these requirements.
Committed assets remain within the same network infrastructure throughout the entire process. Interest calculations and distributions occur continuously through Lynq’s Yield-in-Transit system.
Jerald David, Lynq’s chief executive, stated that institutions “shouldn’t have to choose between using an asset as collateral and continuing to earn interest on it.”
Varuna Wijesundera, ZeroBeta’s CEO, described collateral as “one of the most compelling use cases” for tokenized financial instruments. He explained the partnership enables institutions to leverage these holdings in routine lending and trading operations.
Platform Infrastructure and Industry Developments
Lynq was created through a collaboration between Arca Labs, Tassat Group, and tZERO Group. The platform operates under tZERO Securities, which holds SEC registration as a broker-dealer and maintains membership in FINRA and SIPC.
The platform now holds more than $89 million in digital assets, with participation from over 40 institutional cryptocurrency companies. The collateral lock capability went live in March 2026.
ZeroBeta maintains its headquarters in Canada, operating delivery facilities across North America, the United Kingdom, and Sri Lanka. BlueShift provides services to trading operations, investment firms, clearinghouses, and custody institutions.
Competing companies are developing comparable solutions. In September, Citi published research indicating that 77% of financial institutions surveyed anticipate utilizing tokenized collateral arrangements in 2026. The same research estimated approximately 25% of collateral remains unproductive because of operational challenges.
Earlier in October, BNY and Citadel Securities executed a Treasury financing transaction using a tokenized two-year government note. The instrument settled in minutes and was committed in an overnight triparty repurchase transaction.
On the Avalanche blockchain, Aave revealed plans in September for a credit facility that would permit qualified institutions to borrow Tether’s USA₮ stablecoin against approved tokenized holdings. In May, VanEck’s VBILL tokenized Treasury product became acceptable collateral on Euler lending platforms.
The Lynq and ZeroBeta announcement did not identify which institutions are utilizing the integrated service. The organizations also withheld details regarding interest rates, collateral coverage ratios, or the total value of Treasuries currently pledged.
