Key Highlights
- SOL surged approximately 7% from its August 7 bottom at $72.49, climbing to $77.36 and escaping a five-week downward channel pattern.
- A bullish flip occurred on the 4-hour Supertrend indicator at the $75.02 mark, reinforcing the breakout momentum.
- High-leverage liquidation zones between $78 and $80 may fuel additional upside if current support levels remain intact.
- A pair of governance initiatives (SIMD-0550 and SIMD-0553) targeting supply dynamics await validator decisions by August 18.
- Crypto trader Michaƫl van de Poppe identifies SOL establishing a higher low versus Bitcoin, projecting potential movement toward the $100-$120 zone.
Solana (SOL) posted a substantial 7% gain from its August 7 bottom of $72.49, reaching $77.36 during intraday trading on August 10. This rally propelled the altcoin beyond the top boundary of a downward-sloping channel that had confined price action since the beginning of July.
Chart analysis on the 4-hour timeframe reveals SOL initially regained the $74.30 threshold before piercing through channel resistance around $75. The breakout coincided with heightened trading activity, while the bull-bear power metric climbed to 1.23, indicating buyers currently hold greater near-term influence than sellers.
The Supertrend technical tool has shifted beneath current market prices, establishing dynamic support at the $75.02 level. Maintaining position above this marker preserves the constructive 4-hour chart structure.
Cryptocurrency analyst Dami-Defi highlighted the development in an August 10 social media update on X, observing: “SOL just broke a five-week downtrend.” Despite this technical achievement, the breakout has not yet validated a comprehensive trend reversal. SOL continues trading substantially below its May swing peak near $97 and its January high above $145.

Protocol Governance Initiatives Target Supply Dynamics
Two significant governance measures are capturing network attention. Proposal SIMD-0550 seeks to accelerate the annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%, expediting Solana’s path toward its long-term inflation target. Meanwhile, SIMD-0553 proposes implementing resource-dependent transaction fees, potentially elevating daily SOL token burns from approximately 650 to a range between 7,500 and 9,000. The official governance review period extends through August 18, with both measures requiring validator consensus for implementation.
On the institutional front, asset management giant BlackRock recently introduced a fund framework capable of registering ownership across multiple public blockchain networks, including Solana. Additionally, Western Union’s USDPT stablecoin operates on Solana through Anchorage Digital Bank and debuted across 37 international markets in May.
Critical Price Thresholds Under Observation
The most immediate liquidation concentration zone exists between $77.80 and $78.20. Clearing the $78 barrier could activate short position liquidations and facilitate advancement toward $80. Subsequent resistance awaits in the $82-$84 corridor.
Trading expert Michaƫl van de Poppe shared on X that $SOL maintains a crucial support foundation, noting it has established a higher low relative to Bitcoin and appears positioned for potential expansion toward $120.

Examining the weekly timeframe, analyst Rod pinpoints Fibonacci extension targets at $176.02 and $210.34 as extended-term objectives should Solana successfully breach and consolidate above the $90-$100 territory.
The daily Awesome Oscillator currently registers at -0.46, suggesting bearish momentum is diminishing though not yet fully reversed. A daily candle close above the Ichimoku cloud positioned near $76.93 would bolster the argument for progression toward the $80-$84 range.
The forthcoming network enhancement, designated Alpenglow, targets reducing transaction finality from 12.8 seconds to 100-150 milliseconds, with phased implementation scheduled between August and October.
