Authorities in three Vietnamese municipalities have successfully dismantled underground gambling operations linked to approximately $75 million in wagering activity. The coordinated enforcement actions took place in Can Tho, Ninh Binh, and Da Nang, with reports emerging from July 4 onward.
All three operations centered on digital betting platforms focused on soccer matches and lottery games. Law enforcement officials indicate the networks employed sophisticated multi-tiered account structures to distribute wagers among numerous participants.
Can Tho Operation Processed $37.6 Million
Law enforcement in Can Tho City reported their Criminal Police Division successfully dismantled an extensive gambling operation managing both lottery games and football wagering. Transaction volumes for this syndicate exceeded VND1 trillion, equivalent to approximately $37.6 million.
Authorities executed simultaneous raids at eight separate addresses during the early morning hours of June 28. Twenty-six individuals were brought in for interrogation throughout the operation.
Investigators confiscated 45 electronic devices including mobile phones, tablets, and computers, alongside documentation connected to the betting enterprise. Thirteen individuals face detention on gambling-related charges, including organizing illegal gambling activities. The probe into additional participants continues.
Multi-Province Network Operated From Ninh Binh
Ninh Binh Provincial Police collaborated with the Ministry of Public Security to dismantle a football betting operation. Authorities identified Nguyen Van Hao and Pham Xuan Thuy, both residents of Thai Nguyen Province, as the suspected organizers.
The network operated through a master betting account designated as JQK52, which was subdivided into smaller accounts distributed to bettors throughout Thai Nguyen, Ninh Binh, and surrounding regions. Law enforcement estimates the operation handled more than VND900 billion, approximately $33.8 million.
Wagering activity intensified significantly during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Starting June 12 through the date of intervention, the network processed roughly VND350 billion, equivalent to $13.2 million, specifically related to World Cup matches. Six individuals remain in custody.
Da Nang Crackdown Targets Tournament Betting
Da Nang City Police announced their Criminal Police Division broke up a football betting network operating throughout the World Cup period. The operation documented approximately VND20 billion, or $752,000, in total wagers.
According to investigators, Tran Trung Viet obtained a master betting account which was divided into four secondary “Agent” accounts. These accounts were operated by Tran Quoc Quang, Tran Quoc Hung, and Nguyen Dang Hoang Linh, all Da Nang residents.
These agents subsequently created 16 additional sub-accounts distributed among individual gamblers. Throughout the period spanning June 1 to July 2, the network’s transactions surpassed VND20 billion.
On July 2, authorities deployed eight specialized teams to conduct searches at multiple sites. They apprehended suspects and secured approximately 12,000 pages of physical and digital evidence.
Tran Trung Viet currently faces detention on charges of organizing illegal gambling operations. Tran Quoc Quang, Tran Quoc Hung, and two additional individuals are under investigation for gambling violations. Nguyen Dang Hoang Linh remains at large, and the investigation continues.
