Shares of Alibaba experienced a significant 5% rally on Tuesday, marking the company’s most substantial single-session advance in a fortnight, following Alipay’s unveiling of what the payments giant characterizes as China’s pioneering comprehensive agentic commerce solution for business users.

The announcement boosted investor confidence in Alibaba just days before the company releases its financial results for the quarter ending in June.
This innovative solution equips business owners with comprehensive AI capabilities, enabling them to transition from conventional digital infrastructure to cutting-edge AI-driven operations. Companies currently lacking AI integration can transform their existing pages, inventory and operational processes into what Alipay terms “agent-compatible capabilities.”
The cornerstone of this ecosystem is Ah Bao, Alipay’s intelligent assistant launched earlier this summer. This AI-powered agent enables customers to interact with over 10,000 automated services using conversational language, handling everything from utility payments to dining reservations.
Major brands such as KFC, Luckin Coffee and Mixue Bingcheng have already integrated with Ah Bao. Customers can complete orders and transactions through simple conversations with the assistant, eliminating the need to switch between different applications.
Extensive Device Integration
According to Alipay, Ah Bao currently interfaces with five leading smartphone manufacturers whose combined market presence exceeds 70%, alongside 16 automobile producers. The platform leverages its proprietary AHA protocol to enable merchants to engage with consumers across smartphones, vehicles, smart glasses and additional connected devices.
Ant Group’s CEO Cyril Han expressed optimism about the platform’s trajectory. “We anticipate significant expansion in agentic commerce within the coming 6 to 12 months,” Han stated.
Notable collaborations include StepFun, a foundation model provider, whose customers can now access everyday services through Ah Bao on StepFun’s AI-optimized hardware. Additionally, OPPO has linked its Breeno AI agent to the service catalog available via Ah Bao.
Business Support Initiatives
To expand its developer and merchant network, Alipay introduced an AI Business Incentive Program. The initiative provides 100 million complimentary tokens per account holder, financial support for transactions and discounted processing charges.
Alipay’s network bridges more than one billion users with in excess of 80 million business accounts throughout China, facilitating access to over 10,000 services across sectors including transportation, medical care and leisure activities.
The platform made its official debut during Alipay’s AI Ecosystem Partner Conference held in Hangzhou on Tuesday, August 18.
