Shares of Biogen (BIIB) reached a 52-week peak of $219.94 during Tuesday’s trading session, marking a remarkable 57% gain over the past twelve months. The stock began Wednesday’s session at $212.55, significantly above its 52-week low of $131.52.
This upward momentum follows impressive second-quarter financial results and a significant investment from BlackRock.
The investment giant BlackRock acquired 15.98 million shares of Biogen during the second quarter, representing an investment of approximately $3.45 billion. This purchase gives BlackRock an ownership stake of roughly 10.82% in the biotechnology firm.
Additional institutional investors expanded their holdings as well. Empowered Funds increased its position by 64.9%, Focus Partners Wealth grew its stake by 172.2%, and Cerity Partners enlarged its holdings by 15.3%. Collectively, institutional investors and hedge funds control 87.93% of BIIB shares.
The company reported second-quarter revenue of $2.74 billion, exceeding analyst projections of $2.46 billion. Earnings per share reached $3.60, significantly surpassing the consensus forecast of $2.94.
Company Upgrades Annual Forecast
Building on these strong results, Biogen upgraded its full-year 2026 revenue projection from a mid-single-digit decline to a mid-single-digit increase. This represents a significant reversal, fueled by emerging products and an expanding rare-disease division.
Management provided full-year EPS guidance of $12.00 to $13.00. The current analyst consensus forecasts $12.39 EPS for the fiscal year.
The stock currently trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 37.62 and maintains a market capitalization of $31.40 billion. The 50-day moving average stands at $204.36, while the 200-day moving average is positioned at $193.76.
Street Price Targets
Wall Street analysts have shown favorable reactions to the recent performance. Canaccord Genuity increased its price target to $248 while maintaining a Buy rating. Guggenheim affirmed its Buy rating with a $280 target. Oppenheimer sustained an Outperform rating alongside a $300 price objective. H.C. Wainwright boosted its target to $251.
However, some analysts remain more cautious. Barclays increased its target from $185 to $200 while maintaining an Equal Weight rating. JPMorgan elevated its target from $175 to $185 with a Neutral stance.
The overall analyst consensus points to a “Moderate Buy” rating with an average price target of $227.07. Among analysts tracking the stock, 18 maintain Buy ratings, 13 have Hold ratings, one issues a Strong Buy, and one has a Sell rating.
The company is also anticipating results from its Phase 3 TOPAZ-1 and TOPAZ-2 lupus drug clinical trials. According to InvestingPro analysis, the stock demonstrates “high return over the last year” and appears potentially undervalued at present price levels.
