Shares of Eli Lilly are currently changing hands near $1,228, reflecting a 17% gain year-to-date, following a significant expansion of Ken Griffin’s Citadel position during the second quarter of 2026.
The hedge fund acquired 704,000 shares during the April-June period, pushing its total stake to 945,000 shares with a market value of $1.18 billion. This investment now represents Citadel’s sixth-most significant position among roughly 7,500 equity holdings.
Griffin’s timing appears strategic. Shares had declined 21% through April’s conclusion before staging a recovery. Citadel accumulated shares throughout the second quarter, and the pharmaceutical stock has rallied considerably in subsequent months.
The decline aligned with U.S. regulatory clearance for Foundayo, the company’s oral weight-loss medication. The stock subsequently rebounded and posted fresh all-time highs in recent trading sessions.
The company’s portfolio of weight-loss and diabetes treatments continues delivering robust performance. Revenue from these medications is projected to surpass $55 billion in the current fiscal year.
UK Market Entry for Foundayo
Eli Lilly introduced Foundayo to the United Kingdom market on Monday, establishing the UK as Europe’s inaugural market for the oral GLP-1 therapy. The medication, scientifically identified as orforglipron, is accessible through private prescriptions.
UK health authorities granted authorization for Foundayo on August 10. The drug represents the UK’s second tablet-form GLP-1 option, joining Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy pill.
British consumers can expect monthly costs ranging from Ā£100 to Ā£120 for Foundayo. This pricing undercuts the company’s injectable Mounjaro, which carries a Ā£330 monthly price tag.
By comparison, private market pricing for Wegovy tablets in the UK spans £74 to £129 monthly, varying by dosage strength and subscription arrangement.
NHS availability for Foundayo awaits completion of NICE’s evaluation process. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has requested additional data following initial committee deliberations, with no timeline established for subsequent assessment.
