CoinMarketCap has completed its acquisition of Coinglass, a specialized platform for cryptocurrency derivatives analytics, according to Friday’s announcement. The transaction has been finalized, though the companies did not reveal the purchase price.
Known primarily as a price reference tool for digital assets, CoinMarketCap reports that approximately 115 million users access its platform monthly to monitor cryptocurrency valuations and trading metrics.
Coinglass operates in a specialized niche within cryptocurrency markets. The platform concentrates on derivatives market intelligence, including open interest levels, funding rate mechanics, liquidation events and options market data.
How Coinglass Enhances CoinMarketCap’s Capabilities
Established in 2019, Coinglass monitors activity across 28 cryptocurrency exchanges and tracks more than 2,500 distinct trading products.
The service attracts over 5 million users each month. Additionally, Coinglass supports more than 10,000 API subscribers who integrate its analytics directly into their proprietary applications.
The company developed specialized visualization tools including liquidation heatmaps and open interest monitoring dashboards. Trading communities frequently circulate these analytical charts on social platforms.
Derivatives contracts account for the majority of total trading volume in cryptocurrency markets. Consequently, the metrics tracked by Coinglass provide insight into where significant market activity and exposure are concentrated.
Through this acquisition, CoinMarketCap users will gain access to derivatives market positioning alongside the standard pricing information they regularly consult. This encompasses liquidation concentration zones and funding rate movements.
Rush, serving as Chief Executive Officer of CoinMarketCap, addressed the transaction. He noted that Coinglass established its market position through specialized focus and execution excellence.
He emphasized that CoinMarketCap intends to deliver this specialized data to a broader user base. The company has no plans to alter Coinglass’s current operational structure, he explained.
David Salamon, holding the position of Chief Product Officer at CoinMarketCap, also commented on the purchase. He explained that open interest, funding mechanics and liquidation data reveal where genuine market risk exists.
Coinglass Operations to Continue Unchanged
Coinglass has stated it will maintain its independent brand presence. The company indicated its website, mobile application, complimentary tools, API infrastructure and subscription rates will remain unmodified.
The existing Coinglass workforce will stay intact after the acquisition closes. The organization confirmed it will continue developing the analytics platform its user base depends on regularly.
This transaction extends CoinMarketCap’s own acquisition timeline. Binance, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency trading platforms, purchased CoinMarketCap in April 2020.
During that acquisition, Binance stated that CoinMarketCap would maintain operational independence. The exchange also committed that it would not interfere with the platform’s cryptocurrency ranking methodology.
CoinMarketCap has not announced whether Coinglass analytics will be embedded within its primary price listing pages. Currently, both platforms will function as distinct services under shared ownership.
