Equinix (EQIX) shares advanced 2% Wednesday after the data center operator announced Equinix Inference Exchange, a distributed artificial intelligence inference solution developed alongside Nvidia and Together AI.
This initiative merges Nvidia’s Enterprise Reference Architectures with Together AI’s inference capabilities and Equinix’s worldwide data center network. The objective is to enable businesses to implement AI applications more rapidly, economically, and with greater adaptability.
The Together AI platform provides access to over 200 open-source AI models. These models will be made available through Equinix’s international data center footprint and linked via Equinix Fabric to cloud platforms, networks and artificial intelligence service providers.
Equinix made the disclosure during Equinix Horizon, the organization’s first-ever customer and partner conference. The company simultaneously introduced Equinix Fabric One at the gathering, designed to facilitate enterprise connectivity throughout distributed AI ecosystems.
Chief Executive Adaire Fox-Martin stated that the organization is “uniquely positioned” to address enterprise artificial intelligence requirements, referencing almost thirty years of infrastructure development for mission-critical applications.
Platform Architecture Explained
The offering is organized into three distinct tiers. Equinix delivers the foundational infrastructure, encompassing power systems, climate control and operational management. Nvidia contributes its Enterprise Reference Architectures and artificial intelligence hardware. Together AI operates the inference layer, managing both shared and dedicated deployment configurations.
The system links to inference service providers throughout key metropolitan areas globally, a design intended to minimize time-to-first-token latency. It also integrates with numerous cloud platforms, networks and AI vendors to streamline deployment processes.
Equinix presently maintains over 280 data centers spanning 77 metropolitan regions, featuring 230 cloud access points and more than 10,500 interconnected enterprises. Eight of the leading 10 AI model creators and nine of the premier 10 AI cloud providers currently utilize Equinix infrastructure.
Primary Enterprise Applications
Equinix Inference Exchange addresses three distinct business requirements. The first involves metro edge inference capabilities, which position AI processing nearer to end users and data sources to minimize latency. The second focuses on open model transition, assisting organizations in shifting from proprietary systems to open-source frameworks. The third centers on sovereign AI requirements, supporting enterprises in regulated sectors that require AI operations to remain within designated geographic boundaries.
Nvidia Vice President Raj Mirpuri commented that the partnership “turns the world’s leading digital interconnection platform into a global fabric for AI inference.”
Together AI co-founder and Chief Executive Vipul Ved Prakash noted that the collaboration demonstrates that model selection and system performance “are not trade-offs” but instead “the foundation of enterprise AI done right.”
Commercial availability of Equinix Inference Exchange is planned for the first quarter of 2027.
