The energy efficiency initiative has helped participating businesses save $262.8 million annually on energy expenses. Since 2015, businesses have reduced electricity use by 2.2 billion kilowatt-hours through completed projects. The program has helped avoid nearly 1.7 billion pounds of carbon emissions.
ComEd provides businesses with several solutions, including rebates, technical support, and whole-building services. These options help customers lower energy consumption and manage operating expenses. Eligible businesses include restaurants, grocery stores, and churches with demand below 500 kilowatts.
Small Businesses Gain Cost Support Through Energy Upgrades
Small businesses continue to face higher operating costs and tighter financial conditions. Therefore, energy savings provide companies with additional resources for daily operations and future growth. The program allows owners to improve efficiency while reducing monthly electricity expenses.
Participation has remained strong in District 23, which includes Elmhurst, Illinois. Nearly 4,000 local businesses completed energy upgrades and received more than $24 million in incentives. These improvements generated over $13 million in annual savings and reduced energy use by 100 million kilowatt-hours.
ComEd also expanded short-term support through its Customer Relief Fund for eligible businesses. The fund provides matching grants of up to $500 for qualifying small and medium-sized companies. Additionally, Exelon supports the initiative with $2.5 million in funding to assist businesses with outstanding balances.
