September 2, 2026 proved to be an exceptionally unusual trading session for Farmmi (FAMI) shares, despite the absence of quarterly results, corporate transactions, or official company communications.
Trading commenced around $0.12, matching Tuesday’s closing level. Within hours of the opening bell, shares had climbed to $0.50ārepresenting an approximately 350% increase.
What drove this extraordinary movement? A cryptocurrency meme token.
An individual launched JINQIAN on Robinhood Chain, drawing its name from the “jinqian” mushroom (also known as the “money” mushroom) that appears in Farmmi’s product catalog. This token was matched against an on-chain asset bearing Farmmi’s FAMI stock symbol.
In roughly 60 minutes, the memecoin achieved a theoretical market valuation ranging from $60 million to $70 million, based on data from DexScreener and blockchain monitoring account Lookonchain. This figure represented approximately 10 times Farmmi’s actual pre-rally market capitalization.
The speculation soon spilled over into traditional equity markets.
The Cryptocurrency Token Lacked Official Status
The FAMI cryptocurrency linked to JINQIAN wasn’t among Robinhood’s authorized stock tokens. An unidentified creator issued it without any legitimate backing or authorization.
Contrasting with genuine Robinhood stock tokens representing corporations such as Nvidia or Micron, this token featured no minting-and-redemption framework. Consequently, trading activity in the token bore no actual connection to legitimate acquisitions of Farmmi’s Nasdaq-listed equity.
Farmmi released no public communication acknowledging any association with the cryptocurrency. The equity rally stemmed entirely from speculative interest.
At least one participant profited substantially. Blockchain transaction records reveal an unidentified wallet invested approximately $19,000 in JINQIAN during its early stages, liquidating the entire holding roughly 60 minutes later for about $198,000ānetting approximately $178,600 in profit.
The vast majority of subsequent participants experienced significant losses. The token’s value collapsed by over 90% from its peak in a matter of hours.
Trading Volume Revealed the Extent of Speculation
Under typical circumstances, Farmmi processes approximately 5 million shares daily. On September 2, trading volume exceeded 720 million sharesārepresenting nearly 90 times the stock’s standard daily turnover.
Farmmi operates as a small-scale Chinese agricultural products enterprise with merely 15 employees. Prior to Wednesday’s session, its market capitalization totaled only several million dollars.
As the afternoon progressed, shares surrendered the bulk of their earlier gains. The stock concluded trading near $0.15, maintaining an approximate 27% daily increase.
As of this writing, the JINQIAN memecoin was changing hands at roughly $0.0066, translating to a market capitalization of approximately $6.6 million. This represents a dramatic decline from its fleeting $70 million peak valuation achieved earlier during the session.
