The HYPE token surged to $95.17 on September 21, 2026, representing a 4.7% increase over a 24-hour period and establishing the asset’s third peak price within a single week. The token previously touched $94.46 just 48 hours prior on September 19.

Across the seven-day window, HYPE has gained 18.5%. This performance outpaces Solana’s 13% advance, Bitcoin’s 8.2% rise, Ethereum’s 7.6% climb, and XRP’s 4.6% increase.
Digital asset analyst Crypto Patel identified a fundamental catalyst behind the rally, sharing on X that Hyperliquid’s monthly active addresses reached a fresh all-time peak of 291,900 β evidence that genuine user expansion is occurring beyond mere price-driven speculation.
New Borrowing Feature Drives Activity
On September 18, Hyperliquid rolled out a manual borrowing mechanism. This functionality enables participants to deposit HYPE or Bitcoin as collateral to access USDC or USDT stablecoin loans.
Within the initial 24 hours, participants borrowed $269 million through the platform. HYPE token holders can access loans up to 65% of their collateral value, with automatic liquidation occurring at an 82.5% loan-to-value threshold. Bitcoin-backed loans are limited to 50% collateral value, with liquidation at 75%.
This mechanism allows token holders to obtain stablecoin liquidity while maintaining their HYPE positions. The arrangement decreases selling pressure and retains tokens within the protocol ecosystem.
Hyperliquid clarified that loan capital originates from network liquidity providers rather than platform reserves. The borrowing system operates on the identical HyperCore architecture that supports its portfolio-margin framework.
Potential Entry Into US Trading Markets
On September 16, Payward β Kraken’s parent entity β revealed plans to provide HYPE perpetual futures contracts to American customers via Bitnomial, a CFTC-regulated exchange under its ownership.
Perpetual futures contracts mirror cryptocurrency prices without expiration dates. While Hyperliquid handles more than $4 billion in daily trading volume, the platform currently lacks accessibility for US-based customers.
Implementation requires a US-based entity to acquire and stake HYPE tokens according to Hyperliquid’s HIP-3 governance structure. Payward has filed a proposal with the CFTC, though regulatory approval remains pending. Former SEC legal counsel Ashley Ebersole projects the approval timeline at 10 to 12 months.
Currently, only 251.5 million HYPE tokens are circulating from a total supply of 951.6 million β approximately 26%. Nearly 700 million tokens remain locked. This restricted supply amplifies the price impact of purchasing activity.
Broader market conditions also contributed on September 21, when $262 million in short positions faced liquidation within a single hour following declining oil prices.
HYPE’s market capitalization approaches $20.2 billion, accompanied by $228 million in 24-hour trading volume as of September 20, 2026.
